BMA increases water drainage to alleviate flooding in the metropolitan area

BANGKOK, 24 October 2013 (NNT) - Deputy Governor of Bangkok Sanya Chinimit stated that the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has raised the flood gates in certain locations to allow more water drainage.

To help alleviate the flooding in the metropolitan area, the BMA has raised the opening of floodgates at: Klong Song Tai (30 cm), Praya Surain (40 cm), Saen Saep Pracharuamchai Min Buri (1.5 m), Klong Lumbeungkwang (80 cm), Lad Krabang (1.5 m), and Prawet Burirom (2 m). Reportedly, the water is currently draining at a daily rate of 5-6 million cubic meters.

The water levels in major canals remain controllable; therefore, more water can be drained through them. The BMA will further increase the floodgate drainage as appropriate.
