Have you ever had your clubs stolen or heard if someone who has? If so where was it and how were they stolen?

The reason I ask is I'm toying with getting insurance but there are so many clauses I think its not worth it, just be extra careful. Views would be good?

Back in the UK I heard about people losing individual clubs (stolen or lost?) but I have not personally heard it in Thailand.

All you can do is make sure you always check the bag before loading it in the van/car and keep the cover on so it is not as easy to just pull a club out of the bag.

Regarding the whole bag I think it is unlikely to happen if the bag is with a caddy but a risk if you leave propped outside the club on a bag stand to be picked up later - which is why I normally try and get it loaded back in the transport immediately at the end of the round.

I agree with you on the insurance. Mine are covered under my household (fire, theft etc.) but not when out of the house.

I had two full sets, plus a collection of putters and 1 irons, stolen from my house in Pattaya during a burglary some 6 years ago.

Somebody knew who did it and when the police questioned him, they found a pawn ticket in his bag for the sets and some other items.

I got the sets back but never the collection of other clubs.

This would have been covered under my home owners insurance policy but was never claimed.

I've read a few insurance t&cs recently and a lot of cover doesn't cover new for old and if it does its only within 3 years. You need receipts also.after reading them my conclusion was that many people would be disappointed when making a claim in not receiving what they expected, so better to be extra careful.

Good news there isn't lots of stories of clubs being stolen from golf clubs, hotels or taxis.

Clubs left in the open in the back of Pickup trucks have been stolen at Plutalung Navy course recently...No Security of the parking lot and the parking is rather far from the club house when you go Shower....

Never.

I have a ridiculous number of golf clubs to choose from, I dont even know how much gear I have accumulated. So in all sincerity, wouldn't even bother if someone stole a bag or two. But it has never happened.

But my putter...can't afford to lose that one. So I make sure I watch that thing as a hawk wherever I go. I always carry my putter separately. So it never goes with the rest of the bag when I drop it, I carry it separately from the car park. Similarly, I bring the putter to the locker room after the round.

I feel Thailand is extremely safe in terms of golf clubs. I have NEVER heard of anyone having clubs stolen at a golf course. Compare this to many golf clubs in UK where buffoons target boots at the car park on late Friday nights and Saturday afternoons... I have been a member at a few where we've had 5 cars broken in to every weekend.

But I am not prepared to gamble with my putter, I make sure that one is never even exposed to the risk.

Just curious. What type of putter do you use?

It's a Ping with a shaft that has been modified (bent) and weighted (inside the shaft) in three locations.

Understand, thanks.

In the home burglary noted in post #3 above, I lost a Titleist putter I had been using for years that was a favorite. I bought it at Dalmahoy in Scotland for 25 quid in the mid 80s and really liked it.

Sadly, the police never recovered it.

Last year my LaserRangeFinder was stolen from my bag. Must have been the caddie who took it. I noticed it after a couple of rounds on different courses in BKK, so i have no clue where it was stolen. I know at on one course caddies insisted we go shower before loading the car, that won't happen again.
