TAT to lure more foreign tourists
The Nation

BANGKOK: -- Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) will take 69 tourism-related operators, mainly hoteliers, to join the World Travel Market (WTM) in London, to promote its service as a way to keep and expand its tourist base at the time of economic uncertainty in Europe.

The event is held during November 4 and 7. This is the 34th year for TAT to join it. Thailand has acquired 420 square meters, building a concept of Amazing Romantic Thailand, aimed at promoting the country as a honeymooning place, especially beaches such as Phuket and Samui.

Juthaporn Rerngronasa, TAT’s deputy governor international marketing for Europe, Africa, Middle East & America, said before the event would start, the TAT would also lead operators to go to Scandinavia and Germany to meet with travel agencies there in order to update its service and tourism highlights.

Currently, tourists from Europe would be positive, even as economic uncertainty. This year, its tourist number was projected to reach 6 million, up from over 5 million in 2012. The UK and Scandinavia have kept growing, but only one digit, while Russia showed the biggest growth with 30 per cent.

However, she believed the possibility of political demonstration turnout would not have any impact on the tourists' sentiment to come here in the remaining months.

Hope they have leaflets explaining all the extra charges that are going to brought in just for landing in Thailand. Crime stats and info on taxi mafia tactics for Phuket would be good as well, for all those honeymoon couples who are looking for a more adventurous start to married life.

OH yes they will... SHORT MEMORIES TAT. Remember 2011 when you could book in to the Mandarin Oriental in BKK for $36 per night? I do and loved it and yes the demonstartions caused THOUSANDS of Aussies to cancel. And Aussies are Phukets SINGLE BIGGEST touriust group on a year round basis.

The Thais will "lure" foreign tourists. As in trap an animal or fish around with artificial bait. Thais are very good at luring. The Thais should send their girls over to Europe to "lure" them back as they've have lots of practice luring them on the sois of Thailand for a long time.

Haha.... I love the use of the word 'Lure' in the title. Seems I am not the only one who thought exactly the same as I did before I even opened this thread.

It totally sums up TAT's attitude to tourists.

I thought TAT would at least allow the tourists to get here before the luring starts. wai.gif

I cannot understand why Yingluck is not travelling to London, FREE seat and Harrods - shopping. Is she not welcome ??? a perfect opportunity to act as interpreter for the TAT delegation. The PM get little opportunity to use her English skills.

This sounds they are going to Lure them in to a trap .....................................................

PB

Trap, trick, snare?

Or, of course, tempt, attract, persuade. But the nicer definitions of the word would ruin your Thai bash.

Or , to more reasonable minds, it may sound as though TAT wants simply to attract more people to visit Thailand?
