BANGKOK: -- THE MASTERMIND behind the killing of former Olympian shooter Jakkrit Panichpatikum is most likely somebody who is very close to the sportsman's wife, Metropolitan Police Commissioner Lt-General Camronwit Toopgrajank said yesterday.

"We believe somebody close to her took out a contract [on Jakkrit's life]," the senior police office said after emerging from a meeting on the investigation. Jakkrit was fatally shot on October 19 while on his way to meet his wife, Dr Nithiwadee Phucharoenyos, and their children.

Police have now identified "family dispute" as the motive behind the killing. Earlier this year, Nithiwadee and Jakkrit's mother publicly sought help from Social Development and Human Security Minister Pavena Hongsakul over domestic violence.

Nithiwadee's family also recently hired bodyguards for her. The police have interrogated these four men, who are members of Royal Thai Air Force, and are convinced they are in no way involved in the crime.

Meanwhile, an informed source said Jakkrit's assets were worth several million baht and his life-insurance policies had a combined coverage of more than Bt14 million, with his wife and their children named as beneficiaries.

"The investigation is making good progress and arrest warrants for the mastermind, the killer and their accomplices should be issued before the end of this week," the source said.

It added that the killing team possibly had four members - one whose job was to identify Jakkrit, another to drive the getaway vehicle, one to do the actual shooting and the fourth to protect the gunman. "Police are monitoring three of these suspects," the source said.

To find the mastermind shouldn't be that difficult, as the wife appearently had a "close friend" for more than 6 years, who is a policeofficer. Plus the fact that she and her mother stole Mr Jakkrits valuables ,when he was detained for alledged domestic violence.

Maybe there was a reason for Jakkrits behaviour?? A couple of very evil women, wife and MIL, ruining his life? There are always two sides to a story!coffee1.gif

That's a lot of specific intel. Or, is it, possibly, speculation?

Nonetheless, keep on monitoring, lads.

Thailand's finest.

Odds 1000 to 1 ,that in 7 days still no one charged with anything,

with the Thai police its always one of 3 motives, drugs, love triangle,

and money.

So these 4 airmen were on bodyguard duty ,while still serving in

the air force,

For balance maybe you could have mentioned his alcohol, drug, and domestic abuse.

I hope they aren't planning on using the 14 miliion baht as a motive. The wife and her family are richer than ' Jeezus'.

Do you mean Croesus? I don't think JC was loaded as he couldn't afford to ride in baht bus but had to resort to a donkey.

Makes one think how they amassed that wealth. coffee1.gif

14 million baht is the value of his life insurance not his wealth.

Can I get a 1000 baht on at those odds ??

It is common practice for military and police force pers to work a second job doing security to supplement their dismal wages.

The domestic violence allegation was made by his wife and `his`mother, not her mother.

Correct. And in fact, for a lot of them, the second job consists of them performing contract killings....cheesy.gif

Latest is that the wife's elder half brother is in the firing line. He has " priors " for violence and police are " keeping an eye on him " so as he doesn't flee the country whilst they "strengthen their case.

They are also looking for an army sergeant they believe was the person who pointed the target out and is also responsible for putting the hit team together.

Police are waiting for the results from the forensics department that are still analysing the mobile found in Ekk's car. Said mobile was a Samsung Galaxy that could only be used for internet and as a recording device. Not for in/out calls. They are particularily interested in some deleted files on it.

Police have arrested the 2 gunmen that carried out the hit on Ekk. The two where caught in Chonburi over night. Both gunmen admitted their crime and said that they were paid 100,000 baht for the contract. They also went on to say the person that contracted them was " close to " Ekk's wife. More to come on that.........

Police have also said that there are two more people involved in the shooting that are still at large but they believe they will have them in custody today.
