ADT demands new law to better protect local travellers

BANGKOK, 30 October 2013 (NNT) - A major body in the Thai tourism industry has called for the amendment of the current tourism law to prevent hustlers from duping Thai tourists.

The Association of Domestic Travel (ADT) has asked the Ministry Tourism and Sports to speed up the amendment process of the current tourism law in order to better protect rights of Thai travelers.

Yuthachai Suntornrattanavej, the president of ADT, cited the case of Nirada Travel as an example.

Some hustlers had used the loophole in the current law to sell package tours on the internet under the name of Nirada Travel, even though the company no longer existed. However, it still holds on to the unexpired license obtained before the company was defunct.

Many people bought package tours and transferred million of baht to those hustlers who then grabbed the money and ran.

Yuthachai said police could not do anything without complaints filed by those duped by the scam. Most of the time, the wrongdoers fled away and consumers never got their money back.

With the high tourist season around the corner in Thailand, anyone who wants to buy package tours should be very careful, he warned.

So it is okay to scam them?? Illegal touts, roadunworthy transportation, double pricing, dirty beaches, roadclosures due to demonstrations, daily derailments and the list goes on and on...

But when some stupid Thais pay their package tour upfront to "Nirvana Tours", who opened their office yesterday, then it is time to act??

Only for Thais? what about the foreign tourist who accounts for 99.99% of the total tourism income? None the less, how does it feel to be scam like a foreign tourist?

Yeah, they are not enforcing the current laws, why do you need another law not to enforce. This is just another headline for the newspapers and television.
