paternity leave in Thailand?

Recommended Posts

I work for a small IT company in Bangkok (under BOI).

My wife is pregnant and will give birth at the end of the year.

Are foreign employees entitled to paternity leave?

I guess it depends on the company, contract.

But what does the Thai labour say about this?

I've approached our accountant but she's not sure.

I think I'll have to ask our CEO but I wanna know my options first.

Thx

"Only civil servants can take paternity leave for 15 days."

The Labor Act covers all employees, even foreigners.

Read the Act for the leave details. I don't recall them offhand.

Sorry, I read that as maternity. Same answer though, read the Labor Act.

As mentioned earlier, paternity leave is available for civil servants by law. Link. By the way, my niece just had a baby and is on her 90 day maternity leave but she'll probably go back to work after the 45 day paid period....she's got her Mom to take care of the kid while working.

Nope, but assuming you've been paying into social security you should get something like 7000 baht upon the birth of the child and a couple of hundred baht per month till they turn 5 or 6.

Yes about 5 years back we got something like 11,000 for the birth and 350 baht per month for each child up to the age of 7 (?) - think there was a max no. of children, but we got around 700 baht for 2 - can't remember the exact amounts/ details.

So as you say worth checking with the social security office if OP is paying national insurance/ pragan sankom.

Cheers

Fletch :)
