Dual LAN both connected to VPN client

Featured Replies

First let me describe my problem:

When I speedtest my vpn network from my Windows7 computer which is running the open vpn software client I'm getting 8M.

The problem is when I disconnect the vpn client software and install the vpn on a router. Then I only get 1.3M on the speedtest through the vpn router. The reason I want to run through the router is I need to connect a tv directly to the vpn.

I've read that the reason for the slower speed through the vpn router is its lack of processing power to do the encryption compared to the power of the cpu on my computer. I understand this is a well known problem but there are no easy fixes.

I'm wondering if this solution will work:

I just realized that my Asus motherboard has a dual LAN. Is it possible to connect one LAN connection to the internet and the other connection to the TV, but have the data from the TV pass through the software vpn client running on Windows7 before going to the internet?

The TV does connect to the internet fine through the 2nd LAN port (I bridged the connections) but it does not pass through the vpn.

Basically, is there a way to make both LAN ports on my motherboard pass through the vpn software client?

Thanks! That's exactly what I was looking for.

It took me a while to set it up but it works perfectly.

The router I bought is now garbage but you just saved me $400 to buy a vpn accelerator. The accelerator acts as a pc that's connected to the router and it takes care of the encryption.

But why not just put the tv through my computer running the vpn in the first place with the dual LAN, and bypass the router and accelerator all together.

Thanks again!
