I have some friends/guests on a triple entry TR tourist visa. Can anyone tell me if they can cross the border by land & re-enter the same day??

If so what is the closest crossing to Phuket?

Yes, go across, turn around, and come back in. Malaysia is free. I think that the best crossing is Sadao.

Most doing it from Phuket go to Ranong and go to Burma by boat. Entry to Burma costs 500 baht.

What's the chance of getting a 30 day extension on a tourist visa, 11 days early?
