Visiting with Parents, hotels in Ao Nang around 1000baht

I live in Bangkok, my parents are coming over to see me soon and we are taking a trip down to Krabi.

Any recommendations on a hotel in Ao Nang for around 1000 baht, a room for them and a room for me - 1000 baht per room.

I've never been to Krabi, so a little green :)

Also how much should we expect to pay from the airport to Ao Nang? Any scams to be wary of?

Cheers :)

During high season it will be very difficult to find something for 1000 Baht or less. Check for J Mansion Ao Nang or http://www.aonang.de/green-garden/. He is a Swiss renting two rooms only for 1000 Baht a day. But during high season he is usually fully booked. Google in Agoda or Sawasdeee to find something. But most guesthouses have in the meantime raised their rates beyond 1000 Baht during high season.

Regarding transport, as you enter the departure area, you will be faced with a long row of booths, where there will be many women frantically waving and hollering , trying to attract you to their overpriced "limo" services to ao nang. Ignore them all except for the booth on the far left. This is for a reasonably priced bus to various destinations in ao nang. I think it's 150 baht or so. The rest are obscenely overpriced.

I don't know which airport you're referring to ? Certainly not Krabi. There are no touts inside the airport arrival hall. There is the booth for the shuttle bus and the fare to Krabi town is 90 Baht and to Ao Nang 150. And there is the taxi booth you can buy tickets to numerous destinations, i.e. for Ao Nang 600 Baht/vehicle. I agree, these fares are expensive compared to Bangkok standards, where you can get a metered taxi from Suvarnabhumi or Don Mueang to Sukhumvit area for 450-500 Baht inclusive highway toll fees. But the distance with a little over 20 km is about the same.

Yes, I was referring to Krabi airport. Admittedly, it's been 3.5 years since I was there, so perhaps things have changed.

You probably have another airport in mind. This regulation has been put into place after the opening of the new, now international terminal building. For a certain period even the drivers of the hotel buses or limousines were not admitted inside the building and had to wait outside for their guests. In the meantime they are allowed to wait inside in a designated area. There are signboards advising arriving passengers to buy bus or taxi tickets inside the building and the fares are fixed, no haggling.

OP I like to stay at this place:

http://www.aonangvillage.com/

Easy walking distance to everything Ao Nang. Homepage photo on the right of your basic bungalow definitely in your price range, nicer building on leftside photo has newer rooms a little more expensive. Posted rates a joke, ring them up and ask for best rate. Won't be full until December.

K. Bao and family very nice people will arrange pickup for you at the airport; probably exorbitant price there but might be an easy way of handling it as not the easiest place to find. But if you do get a taxi, have them drop you at McDonalds Plaza, and it's right across the street.

I stayed in J Hotel exactly a month ago. Cost about 700b a night and was nice. Room was big, had a view and a decent bathroom. You need to be able to cope with stairs though as there are no lifts. We took a car from the airport for 600b. The hotel booked one the other way for 500b and would probably arrange someone to meet you. Both cars were modern and nice and driven safely.

I stayed at Top of the Hill in November 2013. I paid 800 baht. Basic but clean and quiet. Up the main road from the beach about 100 yards on the left up a sloped driveway. My room balcony faced the Sea and I could see the big limestone cliff to the left. I loved the food in Ao Nong. The massaman curries there were really good.
