Deputy Minister for Commerce Yanyong Phuangrach traveled to Nakhon Nayok where he gave out 1,000 relief packages and other survival kits to people in the flood-hit areas. Upon his arrival, he was welcomed by the provincial governor who briefed him on the overall flood situation in the province.

As for rice distribution, Mr. Yanyong believes the government will be able to sell 48 billion baht worth of rice by year end, and the money will be given to the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Co-operatives (BAAC) to carry on with the rice scheme.

He also stressed the importance of rice quality as all production processes will be available for inspection.

FTI confident number of cars produced this year will reach 2.55 million

BANGKOK, 10 November 2013 (NNT) – The Automotive Industry Club of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) has predicted that the number of cars produced by the end of 2013 will top 2.55 million units.

Spokesman of the Automotive Industry Club Surapong Paisitpatnapong revealed that Thailand produced 1.93 million cars in the first 9 months of 2013, while expressing his confidence that the number will reach 2.55 million vehicles at year end, thanks to the forthcoming “Moto Expo 2013” event.

However, the spokesman said this year’s car orders during the “Moto Expo 2013” will be less than last year’s figure which stood at 80,000 units, adding that last year’s tremendous growth was mainly stimulated by the government’s first-car-buyer scheme.

He also mentioned some worries about the automobile sector facing labor shortage and higher expenses caused by the 300-baht daily wage policy that took effect nationwide at the beginning of this year.

The majority, 88.5 per cent, said it is necessary that the government reveal all details of budget spending to kill public doubts.

Seventy two per cent viewed that the current government’s popularity is declining. The rest said popularity either rose or stayed unchanged.

Protest at Ratchaprasong

Bangkok - Hundreds of red-shirted protesters rallied Sunday on the Bangkok street where scores died in 2010, to urge the government to bring the perpetrators of the crackdown to court.

"People died here," chanted more than 1,000 members of the United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD), better known as the Red Shirts.

The demonstrators were also there to show support for the current government, even though last week it pushed through an amnesty bill that would pardon leaders of the previous government who ordered the the dispersal of their protest camp in the middle of the city.

"We disagree with the amnesty but we don’t want to see this government fall because of growing pressure frome the opposition," said Thawon Songprasom, 50.

In April-May, the UDD led tens-of-thousands in Bangkok to pressure former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva to dissolve parliament.
