You did not read my post very well. I was suggesting MacArthur did not have the advantages of modern medicine and instead used a perfectly legal woman to keep up his healthy lifestyle. He fought WWII leading all allied troops in the Pacific from the ages of 60 to 65. Not an easy task. He also managed the country of Japan at 65 years of age, as, "Supreme Commander of the Allied Powers." At a time when most would be retired looking for early bird dinner specials. Like him or not he had some of the biggest most important jobs in the history of the world. Do you call being the Supreme Commander of the Allied Powers growing old with dignity? Or to Quote doug, "Old soldiers never die they just fade away." Happy poppy day.

A man such as Macarthur endowed with an ego the size Texas, this is par for the course. I doubt he had to drag her kicking and screaming into bed. Flawed genius? Or sexual deviate. There are many Military Commanders one could apply the same question. Bernrd Montgomery? There's an interesting case with his young (boy) friend of many years. What about Eisenhowers Driver/PA, Kay Middleton? Then there is Horatio Nelson. I could go on.

What interests me more is why Macarthur was not sacked for his handling of the Battle for the Philippines. The Commanders at Pearl Harbour were sacked for their negligence. Yet Macarthur came out unscathed. America was in great need of a 'hero' in those dark days and Doug lucked in. He was responsbile for the greatest defeat ever inflicted upon the US. He completely botched it. Lost his air force on the ground after receiving due warning from Pearl the the Japs were on their way! He was arrogant and totally underestimated his enemy. His taking the glory for the New Guineau campaign is legendary in Australia. He never visted the front line once during the campaign. The man was an arrogant media loving prick.

Then there was the 'Return' to thrPI, and the needless waste of 1000s of lives in the Battle For Manila, which really did not need to happen.

His role of being the real 'Emperor' of Japan after the surrender and during the occupation is said to be a masterstroke of transforming japan. But it was not entirely all of Dougs doing. When the North Koreans invaded the south, Dougs troops in Japan, who were the first cab of the rank, were lazy, unfit and totally unprepared, green occupation troops. Dougs Inchon Landings made famous again.

Believing that a land war in Asia was unwinnable, had he got his way in Korea, using nukes, even in a tactical role,it would have been a total disaster for the future of the world. His ego was out of control. For a Military Man, his insubordination was disgraceful. Typical behaviour of the despot who says, do as I say, not as I do. He needed to be given reality check, and thankfully, Truman gave it to him.

So, after all that rambling. Am I suprised Doug would take a young mistress. Not in the least.
