Will credit card debt prevent entry to Thailand?

Recommended Posts

I left Thailand a year or so ago with a credit card with Kasikorn bank with money still oweing. I had every intention of continuing to pay it off from outside of the country, I am now working in China. But I came across multiple problems with this theory and as a result it was not successful. I am planning on travelling to Thailand next year and will be happy to pay the debt when I am there but I am concerned that I will not be allowed in or out.

I have spent a lot of time over the last few days on the phone to Kasikorn to try and gather some information and been passed around and around between call centres. Either the person on the end of the line does not speak English or there was no answer. No one I spoke to seemed to be able to shed any light on what would happen if I try and enter the country.

Does anyone have any experience of this?

Thanks,

The problem in Thailand is that the lines between civil and criminal actions are blurred.

I have known many people default on bank loans, but never known of anyone being arrested or police involvement because of it.

Maybe it is different with credit cards though.

I'm assuming that you also have a bank account with Kasikorn. Is it possible for you to transfer enough money to cover the debt into that bank account and then arrange for the CC debt be settled from the account?

They will let you in no problems.I am very surprised that you didnt get a someone who could speak fleunt English at the K Bank customer service

The lines are that blurred that their are hardly any companies making bad debt collections. Banks, leas companies they all do business with the police and immigration instead of with private companies. Normally you should have no trouble entering Thailand. Leaving Thailand is an entirely different thing though. Luckily for you the statute of limitations on things like this or writing a bad check are relatively short.

Well, OP says he can pay it back when he shows up....just pay it before you go...Call the bank, say you have thhe payment in full and find out how to pay. Done. Then you are free and clear--does it matter if you part with the money before or after you come here? Trust me, no matter how late you are, they will not be angry when you say the words "yes, I would like to pay the complete balance."

I don't see why they wouldn't allow back you in. They want their money back so why refuse you entry?

For every customer with a Thai Bank credit card, your name is submitted quarterly to the National Credit Bureau whether good or bad credit. If you haven't paid in a while your name is with the NCB as having a bad credit. You will probably never get a loan or another credit card in Thailand unless you get you name off the blacklist somehow.

Owing money to a bank is just like any other country. Depending on the amount, they could take legal action against you, repo your car, house, garnish your salary, or throw you in jail in a worst case.

Just pay the bloody thing off. I'm sure they accept cheques and money transfers.

Newbie 1 post? A man from Nigeria perhaps?

. Let this guy help himself. He tries that one year later, just because he wants to go back to Thailand.

Stay away, please. Already too many troublemakers here.-wai2.gif

Wow! What a sweetie she is. Put her together with the OP and we could have Thailand's Bonnie and Clyde smile.png

My wife had some debt when I met her. After a year or so together I cleared the debt - I feel foolish now!

Dear "Expat18," Can't begin to tell you how terribly sorry I feel for you and as for my fellow Expats who contribute to this forum and have made such unkind comments about you, well what can I say?

We who pay our bills and endevour to make a good impression on our Thai hosts by not doing a runner if we create a debt, should open our hearts to you, maybe even our bank accounts so we can help you get off the Black List.

I mean, to give you the benefit of the doubt, you, through no fault of your own, are probably best described as a "GUNN'A", that is a well intentioned soul, who was "Gunn'a pay the Bill", was "Gunn'a do the right thing", yes indeed you "was Gunn'a" but just didn't quite get around to it, making it bad for the rest of us who live in Thailand and try to behave like honest people.

On the other hand, this might be a brand new idea,(scam) that no-one has ever thought of before and you expect sympathy, maybe even the offer of some money to pay your debt for you. Well "Sunshine" you're not fooling anyone. Stay on the Black-list, we can do quite well here without Farangs running up bills and then "doing a runner."

If the debt exceeded 2500 Baht the Bank has already turned you into

Immigration. They have a Blacklist of bad debts and this puts you on

a "Dead beat "list for the purpose of entry into Thailand for 5 years. it

happened to a person who use to rent next to me, she is from UK and

can't return to LOS, even if she pays the debt to SCB for 5 years.

Just "Pay your Bills" you made the bill, it's your responsibility.

You may wish to believe this but is actually pure fantasy.

That's because they only keep 3 years of credit history.

your wife seems she never learned responsibility with money

she learn Farangs pay for every mistake so why worry
