actually cotty 230 , they havent accused his ex girl friend of anything.

a case like this involving pattaya , girls , ex girl friends and assassins on motorbikes is bound to attract attention from the uk gutterpress.

you should not be surprised.

those close to his already distraught ex girl friend should not be letting her read stories like this.

I know that she as not been accused of anything by the police I am with the police on a daily basis, but I have heard and she as heard the rumours and that certain people are stating shes is to blame for Steves murder. If she is then I hope she gets whats coming to her, but i still believe in innocent until proven guilty!!!

This is in todays UK Daily Star.

By Tom Savage.

A Brit living in Thailand was blasted to death in a suspected "Ladykiller" attack.

Steve Parkinson, 47, from Hull was shot by a four strong gang as he and a girl rode a motorbike in the sleazy beach resort of Pattaya.

I follows a series of attacks where Thai brides have ordered the murder of their wealthy foreign husbands.

Steve's Thai girlfriend, who wasn't the girl on the bike- denied she was involved but, she admitted they had split in a row just days before.post-16343-1146841899_thumb.jpg

I would love to know where the press are getting there information for articles like this especially if they are being informed from Thailand (sensationalism or what??), Steve & Siriporn (not married) had an amicable split on the same day and which also happened to be the night of his murder, myself & Steve even spoke of this on that evening . They had both been keeping in touch even on that evening and the split was supposed to be a temporary break, as far as I know and even up to now she gains nothing financially are losses are greater. She is already distraught over her loss of Steve and after hearing this news today, she is inconsolable. When the investigation is over and her name is cleared, I wonder if there will be any apology forth coming from the press, I THINK NOT.

I thought I read somewhere they were selling their flat due to the rift? No doubt with the property in her name and she didnt really care to give him his share upon sale. Regardless, a wise man once advised to always be worth more to your TG alive than dead because she will always choose the money.

Total rubbish about the property, this property as been on the market for over four months (nothing to do with the split with GF), who ever claims that Siriporn as a claim on his assets have been totally miss informed, Steve brought this in is own company name (no she is not a shareholder either). She as no rights to Steves assets at all!!!

Well everybody knows what Pattaya like, people go there to live and after a while think they own the place. That guy maybe offended someone, did'nt pay a bill or what ever.Pattaya runs on it's own laws, thats why there's so much trouble there.I still would like to live there,I keep my nose out of problems or can solve them before they become a problem.

I'm still trying to work out where along Soi Siam Country Club this took place. I know Mobi (i think) asked this question, but when I scrolled through, I did not see any answers from anyone.

So, exactly where is this Jeab Minimart?

Thanks

Also I am aware of incidents that have happened before along this road, however they normally are in the area towards the bottom end of Siam Country Club (Basically between Railway Line and up as far as Junction with Soi nerm plub wan and the road of to Crocodile farm, basically where the family BBQ chickens on that junction. Invariably they have been Thai victims.

It happened on the farthest side of the lake from Pattaya.

He died between the Fishermans Rest and Khun Johns restaurants.

Jeab Mini-mart has a noodle stall outside and is located at the entrance of P.S Land and House.

Some more commentary here on Lonely Planet's The Thorn Tree

http://thorntree.lonelyplanet.com/messagep...rentid=0&from=3

Here on Thaivisa.com - it was inevitable that every aspect of this tragic murder would be discussed and debated and every angle considered.

cotty230 and others - you're doing a great job - let's hope this case can be wrapped up this weekend.

I would love to know where the press are getting there information for articles like this especially if they are being informed from Thailand (sensationalism or what??)

Most likely "Tom Savage" is one of the pseudonyms of the infamous Andrew Drummond, supplier of juicy fabrications from South East Asia to the British gutter press.

The importance is what sells best, and not what might have happened in reality.

Actually, Andrew Drummond (spelling) has provided very good copy on a number of murders involving foreigners staying here in Thailand in the last ten years or so.

He's a good investigative journalist who brings to the attention of the general public stories that would otherwise in some cases not normally see the light of day.

Katherine Horton, Kirsty Jones and The Pattaya Airclub murder are just a few that immediately come to mind.

In this case of the murder of Steve Parkinson, no sensationalism is required.....the murder in itself was particularly repugnant.....no mercy, whatsoever, shown to the poor unfortunate victim.....under extremely dubious and suspious circumstances!

again Pattaya! I am glad that I don't live in that place! :D

You are not the only one... :o

================================================================

You're both not 1/2 as glad as us "True-Pattayans" !!!!

Please stay in your safe-haven of "Nakhom Nowhere" and give Pattaya a wide berth, okay ? You're doing a lot of people a great favour by acting thus !

Proud Pattayan !

:D

"Proud Pattayan"???

I lived in Pattaya for 5 years due to relationship and business...I've NEVER met anyone who was proud of this place!! Neither was I! :D So I relocated as soon as I had the possibility! :D

My partner stole my company! My wife stole my money! But at least I didn't get banged up! So it was time to leave!....and NEVER return! :D

In my 5 years in this rotten hole I saw everything! Killings, suicides, rapes and you just name it!....but well...that's life...take it or leave it! I left it!

And not to forget that the property prices in this hel_l hole has increased with 300% the past 3-5 years! Condos and sea view properties are Phuket prices now! :D

Company accountant shot while jogging

PHUKET CITY: Police are scratching their heads after company accountant Somporn Pattanakij, 61, was shot dead by a gunman while jogging with his wife near Suan Luang Park early yesterday morning.

The gunman shot K. Somporn once in the face with an 11mm pistol before jumping on a motorcycle and being driven away by an accomplice.

K. Somporn died while being taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital by Kusoldharm Foundation rescue volunteers.

Pol Lt Col Sanguan Muangtham of Phuket City Police Station said that K. Somporn’s wife, K. Sumalee, had told investigators that she and her husband went to Suan Luang together every morning for exercise. K. Somporn would jog on ahead, while she would walk behind, she said.

Another witness to the killing said that the gunman was apparently waiting for K. Somporn and called out to him as he jogged past. When K. Somporn stopped, the assassin shot him from about two meters away, then walked over to a motorcycle waiting nearby.

“We don’t yet know why the gunman killed him. We have to investigate further,” Col Sanguan said.

Accountants seem to be right up the list when it comes to foul deeds. I still can't forget the killing of an accountant friend of mine Michael Wandsley, that came to Thailand to audit a sugar company's books. He found that there were millions of dollars being syphoned off the company, he died because of it! He was just doing his job, no more, no less.

This could well be the case with the unfortunate Thai accountant.

Not forgotten Mike :o

Why don't you do your Pattaya bashing on the Pattaya bashing thread ("Deadwood") rather than this thread which is concerned with the tragic murder of Steven Parkinson?

4th time of asking.

It would seem that the Pattaya bashers reveal their true faces, one by one.

Clearly their hatred of Pattaya is driven by personal traumas, and they vent their spleen on Pattaya, rather than the women/partners they were foolish and naive enough to get involved with.

Another tirade by another victim to add to the list.

There are two points I would like to make surrounding this tragic event.

First, foreigners have to understand Thailand is not the Land of Smiles where everything is safe and peaceful for all that enters her kingdom. I would venture to say many an unexpecting traveler has entered and wished he had never made the journey.

Based on statistics at NationMaster.com, Thailand ranks just below Colombia and South Africa as the country with the most annual homicides by firearms. In fact, it has nearly 3 times as many murders with firearms as the USA (20,032 versus 8,259), with the USA a country almost 5 times the population of Thailand.

Second point, the victim was known to be wearing an obviously visible 5 baht gold chain when he had his first altercation a couple of years back. Today, that represents for some Thais a years income. Assuming he still had this chain and someone knew about it, that in itself is enough to put your life at risk. Sad but true.

I have personally known two individuals who were assassinated in Thailand. Both were contract killings and in both cases there were Thai females present when the murders took place. In neither case where the Thai females harmed. I therefore would not make an assumption the female that accompanied the victim was an accomplice.

Quite likely the ones involved will be apprehended soon and the real reason for why this happened will be revealed. Robbery seems a likely motive and revenge from a prior act may be playing a major part in why it happened. Only time will tell.

As an old USA TV cop show used to end: "be careful out there"

As a tourist I always feel very safe in Pattaya.

However as my involvement in Thai society through my Thai family connections becomes stronger I am realizing that life as an expat may not be so safe anymore. Once you start living among Thais you start to take on the same risks of being cheated, robbed or murdered as the locals you assimilate with. Perhaps even at greater risk since it has been my experience that a lot of Thais dont really like us Westerners too much behind their smiles. And if you get mixed up with shadey characters in business dealings the risks must be much, much higher. Just my thoughts on the matter.

Bravo Ando

Well said, but how to know who is the bad influence people in the Thai community? They are everywhere, even at the fine clubs as The Lions or Rotary with their fine maners and status gold. Even the local police are in the bad influence so where to find the good people to make business with?

Strange for a white foreigner to wear a big gold chain like that. It's usually blacks who wear big gold chains from poor backgrounds. Sad to hear he was shot. I wouldn't have stopped either but i wonder if his bike was bigger than a 200cc would he still be alive.

The problem is the bikes the thais have are normally modified a bit but the 2 strokes they race around on will have more acceleration that a 200cc Phantom.

Regarding the Gold, i've noticed quite a few black guys in walking street recently wearing the hip hop kit including the bling bling fake gold around their necks, a guy came in my place last night wearing the baggy shorts and matching top, he looked ridiculous. :o

Personal instances of fire-arms in Thaland:

1994 - Thai male shot dead by a police office outside my place of workin the afternoon - in the soi which used to house the old Southern Bus terminal.

1996 - Nana Plaza -gun produced and waved at my friends and myself by a Thai male sat across the bar whowas offended by my friend's comments

2006 - autocation between a Thai woman and another near Villa Sukhumvit - Sukhumvit - I intervened and came between them to protect the other woman - then the accuser pulled a gun from her shoulder bag and started to wave it around threateningly. And even though the police were there they did nothing and let her walk away from the incident. Think she was either a hooker or more likely was the wife, mia noi or girlfriend of an influential Thai or westerner. Very, very aggressive and threatening.

About 2001/2002 - drinking in Chicken Foot Bar in Kanchanaburi - an off duty police officer (quite high -up) produced his gun whilst we were sitting with him and spun it around on the table - nothing threatening - but showing off all the same!

2006 - incident at Yut's bar - Pattaya shooting - a friend of mine.

Approx. 1998 - Phra Samut Chedi - got involved in a fracas with three Thai youths where I was staying - dragged away from the situation by girlfriend and neighbours - found out later according to the neighbours that one of them had tried to get to a gun hidden in his pick-up nearby - had to lay low for a while. Nasty situation. Very, very fortunate not to have been seriously injured or, indeed, shot.

Amazing Thailand!

Actually, I consider myself pretty good at spotting strangers (Thai and/or western) who I consider to have a sinister demeanor in bars and restaurants etc.

Normally keep an eye on them just in case. Safety first.
