You probably have seen my thread yesterday where my Safe -T- cuts tripped because the powerlines were hit by a lightning strike.

Ok, after switching them on again everything seems to work fine.....................except the electric gate.

The gate is the only thing that isn't behind a safety -T cut, but is behind a breaker which gat's it's power straight from the 100A breaker outdoor.

I noticed this morning that the gate wouldn't open from the intercom, so used the remote instead, and this made the motor work for 4 seconds. Then it stopped.

So I had a look at the gate motor.

I disconnected the intercom, bypassed the infrared sensors, but still the same.

So when I push the remote the gate runs open for 4 seconds and stops, when I push again it closes again.I

When I do nothing after it has run open for 4 seconds, it will automatic close after the set time of 50 seconds.

Now here comes the funny thing. When it runs in the open direction, and I push right after it has stopped the button 3 times with a second, it will run in the same direction for another 4 seconds.

I can continue this until the gate is completely open and the " open " sensor is activated so it will stay open until the auto close is activated.

I can do the same in the closing direction, but in that case I have to push the button twice instead of 3 times. When it is completely closed it will stay closed.

When I don't push the button after the gate has stopped the second time, regardless of which direction it was running, it will run in the opposite direction for 4 seconds right after it stopped, then wait the the set time limit of 50 seconds and then again runs 4 seconds in each direction. And this will repeat endless as the gate will always stay in the same position.

So it seems the gate gets confused. There is a setting to learn it the distance it has to run in each direction, but when applying this learn function will result in the same behavior. 4 seconds then stop.

The gate motor was purchased at Global house and is of the brand Foresee. ( China ), which probably means months to get fixed .

Any ideas where this brand could be repaired locally ?

Since the motor and everything seems to work only that the memory gets confused, and there is such a 20 leg IC thing inside, I was thinking that this probably is the culprit, but i can't see anything written on it directly.

Any help very much appreciated.

I had a motor that happened to run 3-5 seconds and the shut off.

Reason the coil was broken and the safety cut needed that time till it shuts it off. After it resets it runs again 3-5 seconds.

I have since purchased a new main board for the gate motor, and it is functional again.

I had taken the faulty board to several electronic repair shops, and they all blame the 28 leg thingy on the board, but they can't find the part.

They probably also have never heard of Ebay or Element14 I guess.

So since the motor is functional but runs only for 4 seconds each time, my question is if that 28 leg thingy will be a run of the mill item or if it will needed to be programmed.

Any one has this knowledge.

If it needs to be programmed it should probably also be possible to re program the current part ?

The "28 leg thingy" could be an off the shelf IC, or it could be an EPROM for the machine's PLC - which does nothing without a program loaded back in it.

Got a picture that shows the markings on the chip?

Our gate controller has a PIC microcontroller.

Without looking I don't know which one, but any replacement would require programming for which you will need a programmer (easy) and the code (less easy). It is often possible to copy a working device but of course for that you need a working device.

The markings on the on the chip are as followed

On the bottom of the chip

9J0622

35577D

1-P1001 e3

And on the top

Atmel 1001

ATMEGA88V - 10PU

I have a working device since I purchased a new board, it would be handy to have a spare one in case of another event.

Any idea where to get it programmed ?

Since the old device has still all the functions, only the timing is not correct, I probably can get the old chip re-programmed ?

This is your device http://www.atmel.com/devices/ATMEGA88.aspx probably about USD5 in one off.

I suspect that since the device is still functioning that the programming is OK and that it's an IO line that's dead, only fix is a new device.

Where to get one programmed (copy from an existing device)? No idea, maybe a university science department would be a start.

Do note that most of these devices have a 'copy protect' bit which prevents the code from being read back out of the device, if that's set then you're stuck. Find somewhere that can do the programming and verify the state of that bit before buying a device.

Element14 has the item for 117 Baht.

Now if someone could point me to a place that can do the programming.

Element14 has the item for 117 Baht.

Make sure you are getting the correct package, this device comes in at least 5 different outlines.
