Senators urged to stop plan on Bt2 tn bill

BANGKOK: -- Pheu Thai Party spokesman Prompong Nopparit Sunday urged the Group of 40 Senators not to seek the Constitutional Court's ruling on the Bt2 trillion borrowing bill.

The group threatened to seek the Court’s opinion once the Senate passes the law at Monday’s deliberation.

Prompong said that the senators should take into account the national interests and the benefits of the investment scheme.

These senators have acted against public opinions through their legal fightings, he said. This should stop actions meant to seek political gains, for the sake of the nation

Govt is hypocrite: Ong-Art

BANGKOK: -- Democrat MP Ong-Art Klampibon Sunday called the Yingluck government a hypocrite.

He said while the government said it supports reconciliation, it also supported the red shrits’ gatherings in provinces. This behaviour will only worsen the situation and Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra must take responsibility for this, he added.

He also said that the demonstration at Rajdamneon continues because protesters are unsure if the amnesty bill is already killed. He asked what the government would do if the majority MPs vote to revisit the bill after the 180-day silence period

A krathong parade was held and joined in by Thais and foreigners. The district's evening activity is being held at a local park, starting at 6pm.

In the South, Hat Yai Municipality in Songkhla province organised a merit-making and alm-giving ceremony for monks to kickstart the Loy Krathong festival.

In another southern province, at the Thai-Myanmar border at Ranong-Kawthaung, particularly at the ferry crossing point between the two countries, the day has been very lively since morning, as Myanmar people cross the border to join the Loy Krathong event held in Ranong Municipality.

At least 20,000 Myanmar people, both working in Ranong and from Kawthaung, annually participate in this festival. Marine Police Inspector Pol Lt Col Nirat Chuaijit said two patrol boats and personnel are prepared for accident prevention and to enforce safety of those crossing the border by ferry.
