BANGKOK: -- Ever try walking north past Central World from Ratchaprasong intersection? During the evening rush? No, of course you would never even attempt such a silly thing.

To put the “walk” into “walkable,” Bangkok authorities next month will introduce restrictions on street food carts in front of Central World shopping mall on Ratchadamri Road and also the Tha Phrachan area, often crowded with tourists and students, near Sanam Luang and the Chao Phraya River.

Starting Dec. 1, Central World street vendors must clear the sidewalk for two hours each evening, from 5pm to 7pm. During the day they must line the sidewalk in one row; at night two, facing rows will be permitted.

Walk!!!??? <deleted> to that.....take a taxi......

Ever try to catch a taxi in front of Centralworld in the evening? Most are walking away from the area for just that reason, hence, the need for room.

What the BMA announce and what will be done are two different outcomes. The only time vendors are cleared is when in front of supermarket and shopping malls (their property) .and then it's private security who shift them.On the sidewalks the police are not interested in the hassle .

Just build another skywalk so that the hi-so shoppers can look down on the common people from above. Of course you have to prevent the vendors setting up on the skywalk too, as they are learning at Siam.

Skywalk from Chitlom station all the way to Big C or even across to Pratunam.... perfect
