Thailand to reclaim world's leading rice exporter role next year

If this claim is going to occur in reality, it will involve a coup stopping pheua thai first. Every plan has been an absolute failure and involved massive graft on a previously unknown level. One of the most inept political groups ever in the history of mankind. Civilizations thousands of years ago had more knowledge and better management; now that's sad.

Thaksin said that his big plan for the rice scam to make money was that there would be a natural disaster and Thailand would make a killing. What he didn't think about of course is that the likes of India and Vietnam would grow lots more rice too and of course today there are huge stockpiles elsewhere so no reason for the prices to go up. I think these so called experts are living in la la land.

Regarding the China deal, I thought that figure was over 4 years, not annually?

Just more little white lies.

To accept or believe any figures that are thrown out by this ministry would indicate someone has not learned/observed the pattern displayed for the past 18 months.

He has droped to 24 billion what has been promised to be far more in 2013 repayment to the ag bank. The total repayment of 164 billion out of a 600 billion front monies put into the programs first 2 years. The 26 million tons in storage (ag bank figures) has shrunk to 10+ million tons in storage (commerece figures) with a return of 164 billion baht. on what amounts to sale?, (or whatever it gone), 16 million ton of rice.

Sounds like more verbal garbage from kittyrat and company, using the Commerce ministry as potential cannon fodder.

In the BKK post today was an advert from a International charity NGO asking for sealed bids to buy 2.56 million tons of rice for the refugee camps along the border.

I wonder if someone from the Commerce ministry saw it. If not maybe one of the likely suspects (fab4 etc) could get on the phone to Thaksin/Amsterdam and let them know.

So we're 8.30pm now, and I don't see an update anywhere that the contract for 1.2 million tonnes was signed with the Chinese.

Probably they're too busy with more important things.

"the ministry plans to return Bt130 billion next year, at an average Bt12 billion per month, he said."

12 months in a year. Bt12 billion / month..... but only 130 being returned. Someone somewhere will be a very happy bunny, and Bt14 billion richer...whistling.gif

Now there lies the problem. The buggers can't count.

I do recall earlier in the year, this same sure bet was going to happen this year.

Thailand to regain role as world’s leading rice exporter Friday, 31 May 2013 From Issue Vol. XXI No. 22 By MCOT

Permanent-Secretary for Commerce Vatchari Vimooktayon said she is certain Thailand will regain its leading position as the world’s No. 1 rice exporter this year.

Vatchari said the strong baht has affected Thai rice exports in terms of rice price direction, but she said this year she believed Thailand would be able to export 8 million tonnes as targeted.

The "Family" have just cropped 69 Rai, dried, bagged and off to the mill, I hasten to add not under the pledging/mortgage scheme, tried that last year. We/they/I are still waiting to be paid from last years harvest.

Thailand to reclaim world's leading rice exporter dumper role next year

Indeed, knowing that India and Vietnam both produce and deliver the famous "Hom Mali" quality 45% cheaper!!!

And besides that...ASEAN in 2015 is approaching rapidly and Thailand will learn a lesson...

It would hopefully minimise shipping-costs, to source this rice from Thai warehouses, wouldn't it ?

But how to persuade them to pay a premium to normal world-market prices ?

So sell it to the supposed Third or fourth world countries, in Thai-Chinese terms, sell it to the foruth world scum, let the poor people there eat the rotten expired rice until they die from diarrhea, just in order to appeal so International, but screw the Western countries, who are too smart and cause the Pheu Thai to lose face...

Back to school Maxy baby. In your zeal to denigrate the rice pledging scheme ( remember the Democrat's rice guarantee policy?) you should maybe calm down and at least make your rant legible.

1) The good minister is full of crap.

2) Thailand should never have lost its status as leading rice exporter in the first place. But hey, thanks to Thaksin, the idiot PTP and their rice corruption schemes.

At least their cronies got rich(er).

You obviously don't recall the Dim Democrat's attempt at forming a rice price guarantee scheme.

None of the Democrats ever had to feebly proclaim:

Thailand to reclaim world's leading rice exporter role next year

The loss of the title, World's Leading Rice Exporter, occurred under the Yingluck/Thaksin administration.

And now, yet another title loss for Thailand under the Yingluck/Thaksin administration

Neither do you it would seem?

It was about a minumum price guarantee. The difference being paid DIRECTLY to farmers. Lots of farmers complaining the guarantee level was too low.

I never yet met a farmer, who didn't think he should get paid more, for his crop. rolleyes.gif

But the objective was to put a floor-price under the market-price for rice, and to get the money direct to the farmer, reducing the opportunities for corruption along-the-way, and at a price more-easily-affordable by the government & taxpayer.

The Democrat system worked, there was less corruption (I'd never claim none ... people usually find ways to get their hands on government-money !) , and Thailand remained the world's leading-exporter of rice.

Pity that Thaksin didn't just run with the same scheme, and a higher-price, but that wouldn't have satisfied the millers & other feudal-elite who deliver the vote. wink.png
