Cambodia Snags Title for Best Jasmine Rice....but

Featured Replies

Thailand is no longer number 1 in rice, as Cambodia has snagged the title as the best Jasmine Rice.

Yes but , that is only the best for eating purposes.....

Thailand still retains the title for the BEST for Storage for Jasmine Rice.

Although I've been eating Thai jasmine rice for 40+ years (married that long), I'm probably far from an expert on the stuff.....but: When we visit the US every year or so, we buy Thai jasmine rice in the oriental stores there. Thai jasmine rice that is exported is far superior, in both my and my wife's opinion, to Thai jasmine rice sold in Thailand. Go figure.

#2. For a few years, we would buy Vietnamese jasmine rice in our favorite oriental store back in the US.....it was a few dollars cheaper than Thai and tasted as good as Thai....in our opinion. This year when we went for a visit, the oriental store (A Vietnamese Oriental Store) no longer sold Vietnamese Jasmine rice. I inquired with the owner....he said that Thais wouldn't buy the stuff, even though it was cheaper.

I'm not knocking Thai jasmine rice that we buy here.....it's good....but never as good as what we buy back in the US.

Thai will always buy Thai - irrespective of price or quality.

A commendable, but blind, loyalty.
