I'm afraid this is a regularly asked queqtion but maybe theer are new answers! My english wife is a teacher and is thinking of changing schools at the end of the year for another area altogether, and we know that normally speaking she will the have to exit the country and come back on a tourist visa, then get her new school papers exit and come back with fresh Non B . Ok ok I know some of you will tell me that if the schools liase she can avoid all this but judging by the amount of Fups they have made just with the right papers for a first contract this is probably not a route to pursue. Then there is always the possibility of her new school getting the papers ready before she has to do first visa run and she'll then only have to exit once. Is there anyway round all this (seems completely stupid that she's working for the Thai governmant and they put all these hurdles in front of the teachers - to make money sure -but it also puts teachers off moving and even sometimes continuing their careers in thailand) I did hear you can sometimes get the Non B renewed at immigration in Bangkok but it was not a certainty even if all your papers were in order. So .....any ideas folks (experts on the subject reply only please!!!)

When she finishes her job, she needs to go to the labour office and immigration to cancel her work permit and permission to stay (unless it is her end of contract/permission to stay). She can at that time get 7 days to leave the country, giving her 7 days to get the new work permit and new permission to stay.

If that is not possible or the paperwork is not ready within 7 days, she has to elave the country and apply for a new non-B abroad with correct paperwork.

If you are a dependend of your wife, your permission to stay ends as well.

After cancelling the work permit and extension of stay she has 24 hours to leave the Kingdom. She can buy a 7-days-extension for 1,900 THB though.

Are you saying that if she goes to the immigration office where her new school is with the papers that the school will issue her (within seven days) that they can extend her visa for another year as in line with her contract?

Guess you misunderstood Mario. If she cancels her work permit her visa will also be invalid and she'll have to leave the Kingdom within 24 hours. When she goes to the Immigration, she can apply for a seven day visa to have more time to get her documents in order.

Then she'll have to go abroad, usually to Laos ( Vientiane, or Sawannakhet) to apply for a new Non -B visa. That will give her 90 days and she'll have to send all documents to Kurusapa * Teachers Council of Thailand) to get a temporary teacher's license, or if a degree in education a TL for 5 years. As she is only on her first year exemption she will have a second year exemtion and she already has a degree and TEFL - but all in all she will probably have to leave the country although so far have had no replies about renewing the Non B in Bangkok - earlier posts suggested this has been possible in the past and as this was one of the main points to my posting i would be interested to hear from anybody who knows anything about this - JC it's about time the Thai government modernises the visa structures!!!
