Settling in Vietnam/criminal background checks from UK and Thailand and shipping

Recommended Posts

Hi guys.

I am planning on a move to Vietnam soon and was wondering if anyone here has any experience with how to go about getting :

1. Criminal background checks for the time I have spent in Thailand and previously in the UK ?

2, Can anyone recommend any shippers or carriers that are based on the Eastern Seaboard to get my stuff over to Vietnam.

Thanks in advance for any advice that can be offered.

UK

Don’t know about eastern seaboard companies, but used Asian Tigers for an international move who have H.O in BKK and were very professional

I had to get a criminal background check for my Vietnamese work permit. I hadn't been outside of Vietnam for over 3 years but they insisted I get one from my home country.

So, in your situation, I wouldn't worry about getting anything from the Thai authorities, just a police records check from the UK police.

If you have the same dramas as me (18 months to get a work permit), you'll be doing all the paperwork in another 12 months.

JVK International Movers can do door-to-door house removals from Thailand to Vietnam.

Good luck with your move as, due to the new Vietnamese visa regulations, I've just moved from Vietnam to Thailand.

Just over a year ago I had to get a police background check to go work in Vietnam.

I went to the main police station in Hua Hin and they organised it for me. 5000 baht as I recall.

I'm not sure how much effort went into the check. I had only been in Thailand five and a half years.

Nothing was required from the UK and I got my Vietnam work permit..

Having a documented criminal record is pretty much mandatory if you wish to settle in Vietnam

So...if you don't have one then rob a 7-11 (or something)

Just make sure you get caught, convicted and have the paperwork to show the authorities rolleyes.gif

So Australian passport is a good substitute then (joking, before someone threatens to break my f*****G arms wink.png )

A new decree affecting work permits, immigration and visas was issued on November 1. It includes stricter guidelines governing the issuance of visas and work permits and increases in the cost of visas.

My multiple entry 3 month business visa was cancelled and replaced with a 1 month, single entry, non-extendable tourist visa. Despite a number of requests, no clear reason was given for the cancellation of my visa.

  • 4 months later...

How difficult is it to find a house or an apartment in Hanoi? Is it expensive? Would you recommend to live in a hotel on monthly rent? I just went to Hanoi for 2 weeks and I would like to try to live there, I have lived in Thailand for 34 years and I do not like the now expensive cost of living in Bangkok.
