Safe to come to BKK (new Farang in Phuket)?

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've been living in Phuket for a couple of months now; not long enough to know if I should / can believe what the press says about particular situations.

My mother in law is coming over for Christmas and we have flights and a hotel booked to stay in BKK for 2 nights in mid December.

I'll be coming with my wife (not Thai), 20 month old son and mother in law.

Should I be a) putting it off B) thinking twice about coming up?

We want to do the usual touristy stuff. A few temples, Kings palace, Silk House, market or two.

Safe or not at the moment and, if anyone can hazard a guess, better or worse in three weeks time?

Thanks

As what I read from the newspaper the leader of the protest will try to end this game in this 3-4 days. So if it's works i think there's noting to worry about it.

Bangkok is as safe as usual, just congested with protesters. If the demonstrations are still ongoing when you visit, just plan more time to get around and stay away from big crowds.

100's of places to go in Thailand where the protesters ain't.

I live and work in the center of Bangkok and I feel perfectly safe- well, as safe as always given the chances of getting taken out by a scooter on the sidewalk, or electrocuted by a low hanging wire, or...

Still, why risk it? Nobody can predict if and when the stuff may hit the fan.

You shouldn't have any problems.

Just very few areas to avoid.

Where is the hotel you booked?

Thanks for the replies.

It's in Thonburi.

You should have no problem in Thonburi plus most of the major tourist sites are accessible by boat from there so you can avoid the traffic jams. Just avoid the protesters as best you can as one never knows what may happen.
