Ten electricity poles fell down on Kata Hill. Photos: Eakkapop Thongtub

PHUKET: Ten power poles crashed onto the road at Kata Hill around 3am yesterday (December 1), after a tree fell from the hillside and uprooted them.

Fortunately no cars or people were hit as the poles crashed down, domino-style, leaving the road strewn with broken poles and cables.

The poles were all part of a new line and although cable had already been strung between them, the power – happily – had yet to be turned on.

Staff from the Phuket Provincial Electricity Authority were quickly on the scene and cleared the road by dawn, but it took another 19 hours before all the poles were replaced.

Very fortunate that no people or vehicles were involved. Maybe no power on that line but the poles must have taken out power, TV, and internet lines. We had no power for over 4 hours, no cable TV for 20 hours, and no TOT internet for much of the day.
