Wisdom teeth removal in BKK timeframe

My Thai wife needs to have two wisdom teeth removed. We are allowed a free stopover during a transit through BKK in a few months. We would just like to know how much time we should allow in BKK to get the entire procedure completed. I believe there would be an initial consultation / x-rays / then the removal and I guess a follow up to remove stitches / check-up. I have contacted a few places by e-mail but their responses only talk about costs and don't mention how many days / weeks we will need to stay. So basically, how much time should we allow in BKK? A few days? One week? 10 days? 2 weeks? Longer? And... Do they always use stitches that need to be taken out later or do some places use dissolvable stitches? Obviously we don't want to rush our trip and leave BKK to soon in case something goes wrong so all we need is a timeframe from first visit until the dentist would say all clear! Thanks in advance!

600-800 Baht a tooth. 1-2 hours in total. Most people in thailand would rather have a tooth taken out than a crown put in (which is 100 times more expensive), so you can rest assured that whichever dentist you go to, they will have a lot of experience in tooth extraction. The only real complication comes if the root is deep, but the x-ray will show that. x-ray should be about 200 baht

It all depends on whether or not they are impacted or not. Are they through the gums and are they uppers or lowers? I had all four of my son's surgically removed in one go. It took a week for them to remove the stitches. It laid him low for about five days and the first three were in bed. After 8 days, I put him on the plane and sent him home.

As Pacificperson says, it all depends. My local dentist would not remove my lower right wisdom tooth and sent me to a friend at Payathai 3 hospital. He took x-rays and gave me a second appointment the following week (I was not in a rush). The extraction, including waiting time etc took just over two hours. However he knocked out a new filling in the next tooth. I had a follow up visit to remove stitches etc and one for a new filling with my local dentist. I would think that you should allow a week and tell the dentist that is the time you have,

Had 2 back teeth pulled at different times. X rays and injections and a pair of hefty pliers. Rather an unpleasant crunching sound in your head as the teeth are pulled out but pretty much painless, then bleeding and biting down on cloth to soak up the blood for about 3 days. No stitches where I went.. About 800 baht per tooth. Yes crowns are crazy expensive here as is root canal if also necessary...

If the wisdom teeth are infected the dentist will not remove them until the patient has had a cycle of antibiotics

and the infection is gone. If the teeth are painful they are probably infected. Your wife can take a cycle of a broad

spectrum antibiotic before she gets to Bangkok. I had all four of mine done at once some years ago. I highly

recommend a specialist (oral surgeon) stay at least 4 days after surgery to make sure there are no issues.

The younger the patient is the easier the teeth usually come out as the roots are not as set. If they are

impacted they may need to be broken and removed. I recommend being put right under unless the oral surgeon

says the x-rays look straight forward.

I can recommed a Dentist in Pattaya ... trained in USA (for what its worth) speaks very good english; my son had wisdom tooth pulled in less than half and hour (waiting for anesthetic to kick) he said painless .... root canal about 4,000 Baht; my Missus had a tooth pulled as well ... very efficient ...

So if you're going to Pattaya (hour and 15 minutes from Bangkok), then let me know ....

Basically, the last two times we have visited BKK and got a check up she has been told to get them pulled but we did not have time. I asked her specifically what the dentist said and I get the impression that she can't tell me because she doesn't listen / cannot translate the technical terms or that Thais don't understand each other lol. Anyway, I had all 4 pulled in one go so i'm not worried about her getting 2 done, she is 29 so I don't know how developed the teeth are. One of the teeth she was told to get pulled is starting to be felt and is just under the gum, the dentist told her that the second tooth may be deeper but that is the only useful info I can get from her. I was thinking then to at least allow a week. If the x-rays will take time and you need to book in advance, I will try to schedule a long time between the outbound flights and make an appointment to get that done and tell them that we will be back in a few weeks for the treatment. I have read that some have just walked in to places without appointment, had the x-ray done on the spot and then had the teeth pulled 2 hours later and that was it, but the e-mails I get from different places make it sound like we have to keep going back a few days later for this and that and cannot give me a avergae timeframe to be there.

We can recommend our dentist, Bangkok Smile. They are very close to soi Cowboy at Asoke. They have about 20 specialists and do a lot of foreigners. Some of the work they do is very complicated. I have had a bit of work done and it was very efficiently done by each of the dentists I had. Website is bangkoksmile.com. You can phone them for details. Everybody speaks very good English.

X-rays included, 350 Baht. A local dentist in Nakhon Sawan province. One session all done. Sweet'n simple. She also offered to replace an entire upper denture, slim titanium type, with about 10 teeth on it (to fill in the gaps) for approximately 5000 Baht. Bangkok is more expensive, but still a fraction of the West.

I don't care where this wonderfully skilled and gentle Chinese-Thai lady was educated, she is one of the best dentists I've ever been to. Her clinic has modern facilities, and she is an expert anesthetist. I felt nothing.

I'll probably need a root canal....would you mind sharing the name and address of that dentist in Pattaya?
