I'm interested in a pre-pay 3G data package/plan for my phone for use in Bangkok.

Firstly, I'm wondering how data much I would need for checking emails, reading text based web pages for a few hours a day. I don't plan on downloading any files or watching videos.

Which networks have good value plans or are they all pretty much the same price?

Do you get a notification when you are nearing the data limit of your plan? What happens when you exceed it?

Also, for the USB air cards, do they run on the same deals as the mobile pre-pay plans?

I am partly also interested in getting an air card for my laptop for doing more bandwidth intensive tasks (but not video or downloading large files).

So was wondering of the plans for those, or whether I'd be better off using my phone as a modem/air card for the laptop?

Thanks.

Which networks have good value plans or are they all pretty much the same price? Fairly similar, with few significant differences. Choose a provider based on satisfactory performance in your location(s).

Do you get a notification when you are nearing the data limit of your plan? Yes, most service providers sent a message when cap is approached and/or an automatic renewal date nears. There are also many ways for you to monitor usage, through the use of apps, for example. What happens when you exceed it? Typically, your speed gets reduced to 64 - 384 Kbps, maybe an option to add temporary volume at speed, you could also cancel and re-subscribe.

Also, for the USB air cards, do they run on the same deals as the mobile pre-pay plans? Yes. Same same, More or less associated with a SIM ratehr than a device, save bundled plans with voice included.

I am partly also interested in getting an air card for my laptop for doing more bandwidth intensive tasks (but not video or downloading large files). OK.

So was wondering of the plans for those, or whether I'd be better off using my phone as a modem/air card for the laptop? Up to you. What kind of phone do you have? Most modern smart-ish phones can be tethered or function as a Mobile WiFi AP.
