Hi folks,

I've already learnt loads on this forum about Thai visas (thanks all TV members!), but I'd like to try and clarify a couple of things in my own mind.

I'm hoping to head out to Thailand later in the year for an stay of about 12 months. I'll be renting out my house here in the UK so will have a modest income to live on, subsidised by savings. I don't want to do any work during this particular trip, but will be keeping my eye out for any possible jobs or business opportunities that may appeal to me to for the future.

It is my understanding that I wouldn't qualify for any kind of non-immigrant visa for this trip, is that correct?

My best choice seems to be a 6-month triple entry tourist visa, which would last just under 9 months if I timed the visa runs and extensions etc. Then I can either use the normal 30-day visas for the remaining 3 months, or head to somewhere like Penang (or wherever) to get a new 3 month single entry tourist visa.

Would you agree with that so far? If not, what do you think would be a better choice?

If this sounds like my best option, will I have any problem getting a 6 month triple entry tourist visa in the UK?

My final question is when to apply for the visa. Do you get to state on the application form when you want the visa to start? Or does the visa start from when the visa is granted?

Just want to know when to book my flight, so I can maximise the length of my stay on the visa. Wouldn't want to book my flight then have problems getting the visa..

Thanks very much for any help!

You should try to obtain a multi entry non immigrant visa from one of the smaller Consulates first. If that is not available your plan is good. The visa starts from date of issue so you want to leave close to the day you obtain it for max stay.

Thanks for you reply Lopburi3.

Would it be a non immigrant 'O' to try before the tourist visa? And would I have to give any reasons for wanting that type of visa?

How long does the process usually take from when you apply?

Thanks again,

Tell them what you plan and see what happens. Normal issue would probably be same day or next day. Believe they have web sites you can query them on. It is much easier to obtain a non immigrant visa in your homeland than it is outside.

As the saying goes, "Go to Hull"!! :o

They have a reputation for being helpful.

Give "exploring business opportuities" as your reason.

I have a one year multi entry non-im "O" visa issued in Hull.

The reason was "visiting friends".

Can do by post. Passport with visa normally posted back on the day of receipt
