Tariffs/Import Duty on Tablet computers/E-Readers?

Featured Replies

My parents offered to buy me a Kindle or Google Nexus 7 tablet for xmas. Does anyone know if it's more expensive to purchase and then send to me, or just for me to buy one here?

Cheers

I've imported three Nooks (better than a Kindle IMO) from the US at around $100 including postage off Ebay, didn't have to pay import duty on any of them. I have yet to see a Nook or a Kindle for sale at any store in Thailand. The beauty of an e reader over a tablet is the battery life, I only need to charge mine up every 3 weeks or so and I do a lot of reading.

Lucky, why? I have imported heaps of things to Thailand like watches, Car Cams, flash drives, media players, etc, etc. Only paid duty twice, and that was on two watches sent FedEx. If the item comes in via normal post like USPS the odds are you won't pay duty.
