I am from the u.s.a. and have a tourist visa good untill august 1st. I plan on staying in Thailand for 1+ years. The consulate in new york would not give me a one yer multi entry because i don't have a letter from thailand. I plan on either trying to get a multi entry when i get to Thailand, or just do visa runs/border crossings. Also my plane ticket is a one way to thailand. Ihave around 450K baht in an american bank. Any suggestions on the best way to go about this. I leave 6/6/06 Thanks much for any help.

You should easily be able to get a Non Imm B visa vaild for 1 year if you say you are either visiting friends for a long period or say you are going to look at business prospects in Thailand.

Getting the Non Imm B visa in your own country will be much better than if you try at Cambodia or Laos.

To get my Non Imm B visa I sent a 1 paragraph letter saying I was looking at future business plans in Thailand with correct fee and 1 week later got my visa.

Maybe you should call your consulate again to speak more in depth about this.

Hope this helps

The readiness to hand out Non Imm B's varies from country to country and even Consulate to Consulate..............since you have a Tourist visa already there seems little point in pursuing this avenue anyway now.

When you land on the 6th/7th June you will be given a 60 day stay this can be extended by 30 days at local immigration within Thailand for 1900 baht.

Towards the end of the 30 days extension you could either nip down to Penang Malaysia and apply for a triple entry tourist visa there, this would give you a further 9 months in Thailand or do "border runs" every 30 days.

With the triple entry visa you will need to extend after 60 as with the single entry you currently hold, and also exit/re-enter Thailand every 90 days (albeit only to step over the border and back in).

Once this further 9 months are used up............its back to Penang again.

Personally i/d go to Penang rather than do 30 day border runs, 30 day runs can become a chore but there again it depends how close to the border you are going to be based.

Check around the other consulates in your country.

I believe there is one in Texas that may be able to help you.
