Foot injury- walk in clinic?

Hi,

A week ago I started experiencing pain in the top of my foot and I am starting to think it is a stress fracture as there has been no improvement.

Is there a clinic that I could go to tomorrow or will I have to make an appointment in advance? I am thinking I will probably need scans done on my foot. I have heard of the Sripat medical centre and have walked in the building a few months ago to try get an insulin prescription but there weren't any English signs on the first floor so I walked out. How much would a visit here cost and would I just walk in and be directed to the most appropriate specialist?

I wanted to avoid having to see a doctor but it has ruined my holiday not being able to walk around. Hopefully the costs will be covered under my travel insurance.

You can go back to sripat and ask to see a doctor. Keep going to the big room at the end of the hall. They speak english. It will not cost that much for the doctor. 200-300 baht probably. No need for an appointment usually.

If you want to go to someplace with good signage and English speaking staff, then Chiang Mai Ram or Rajavej Hospital near the Holiday Inn are the places to go. However, they may not have the appropriate doctor on duty to see you immediately.

Sripat is more likely to have the appropriate doctor on duty and scanning equipment available. However, the first floor of Sripat is absolute chaos and totally unwelcoming for a newbie. What you don't realize is that when you first enter the building you're not actually in the Sripat private medical unit at all -- you're in the government hospital. Look for the signs that say something about "Special Medical Unit" That's Sripat and you'll feel like Dorothy stepping into Oz when you enter the Sripat lobby.

Thailand is not Oz. Common sense, a realization you are in a foreign country, patience, and a polite attitude will get you the attention you need. It is not so hard. Otherwise, if you are very uneasy, you might ask why you are here.

Ask to see Dr Prasat at Sripat Hospital. He is an orthopedic surgeon and operated on me about 12 months ago...did a brilliant job. You WILL NEED to make an appointment but if you want The Best, you'll have to go through the correct procedure.

Don't know about your Travel Insurance covering costs, I'd check that out first thing if I were you.

Good luck!

First off, why are you walking about when you've experienced a foot injury.

If your looking for a walk in clinic, then best not walk in and out of different clinics,

be they walk in or not.

By the sounds of it most of your injuries will be acerbated by your constant walking in and out of foot clinics.

Get a chair, with wheels and then wheel freely into the walk in clinics that you've been walking into.

Dr Chanakarn Phornphutkul (sports medicine)

Rajavej Hospital, 053 801999 and 053 204545

(Orthodpedic clinic opposite the hospital on the other side of the river)

He has an X ray machine in his clinic and is one of the best in Thailand. He is recognized by some of his peers as the best arthroscopic surgery. Recently replaced my hip bone am immensely satisfied. office hours start at 5:00 at night with the exception of Friday when he is at the Rajavej Hospital.

I am walking around because I'm travelling alone and have to go buy food. Thats what I have limited my walking to. I will get a tuk tuk there. Unfortunately I don't have access to a wheel chair.

What about the Loi Kroh clinic, that is close to where I am staying.

i would go to Sripat 13 Floor or one of the larger hospitals like Rajavej near Holiday Inn. nothing wrong with the Doc at Loy Kroh Clinic but he probably doesn't have what is needed to diagnose your problem. go to a bigger hospital where they have all the equipment and orthopedic doctors available.

Yes he is a good doctor and has a lab but I don't think he has an X ray machine. Siripat 13 floor probably your best bet cheap but take a book with you. Ram also good but cost more. The thing I liked about them was I was given a copy of the radiologist report.
