December 21, 201312 yr I am very interested in Thai culture and I am lucky enough to have been accepted into a circle of Thai women who are married to farang men. 99% of them claimed to have met their farang husband at a salon where they used to work. What is a salon in Thailand?: Massage place, spa, beauty parlor??? These women speak very little English even though they have been married to their men for more than a decade. There is a HUGE difference between my Thai friends who claim to have met their husband at a salon and my Thai friends who have met their husbands during traveling or at work in some international school. So what is a salon in Thailand? I hope its not a brothel LOL. Not that it makes any difference:-) But I am kind of curious! Edited December 21, 201312 yr by onvacation
December 21, 201312 yr Popular Post If you had been accepted into their circle, then you would know the answer to this.
December 21, 201312 yr Author If you had been accepted into their circle, then you would know the answer to this. I just don't feel like asking. I'm afraid they might think I'm a bit intrusive. I have been accepted in to a circle but I always tread very carefully. Don't want to hurt or embarrassed anyone. In the end they are all nice and generous ladies but I just thought maybe a farang guy here would know exactly what a salon is in Thailand.
December 21, 201312 yr Popular Post It's usually a place where women get their hair, make-up, and nails sorted out. But in this case, seeing as there appear to be a lot of women who've met their husbands at such a place, it might be different. My wife, as far as I know, hasn't met any men when she goes to the salon, although I might go with her next time, now that I've read your post!

December 21, 201312 yr Come people - it seems like a harmless question that deserves an answer and here is mine .... The "salon" is probably a catch all that covers working in a massage parlour, as a cashier in a bar or quite simply working in a bar. Of course to say you met him in a salon is a lot easier for the mouth and for the ear. Doesn't really matter anyway provided that both they and their husband are happy who cares where she worked before?
December 22, 201312 yr Yeah, salon owner/operators; I was with one awhile back, and most of her customers were freelancers who specialized in servicing Japanese tourists. While she claimed not to be a pay-for-service girl at the very beginning, after 1 week she wanted a "contract" (her exact word) wherein I would pay her apt rent, salon rent + all expenses...the rest of the "relationship" consisted of me kicking her to the curb...
December 22, 201312 yr Popular Post The best Thai women I have met work in professional jobs; law firms, accounting firms, banks, schools, hospitals, etc. They are not "easy"; they tend to be pretty conservative and have too much self-respect to jump in the sack at the first sight of a farang male. Like anything else of value, it takes time to get to know each other, their true values and earn mutual respect.
December 22, 201312 yr Popular Post I have worked for some major companies in Thailand very few if any have or indeed wanted a farang boyfriend.
December 25, 201312 yr Could be true.. I've found hairdressers here to be very flirty. In both the 100 baht places and the nice malls. Although the fact your Thai woman friends speak little English makes me doubt that. Maybe they were bar girls and are just being polite to you. If you know these women, what their jobs are now, and what they're like, it should be obvious which is true. Nobody on here is going to know more than you do. Edited December 25, 201312 yr by celso

To the OP - Seriously, why do you care? If they are the friends that you say they are, it shouldn't matter what they did prior to today. Only your friends can give you the answer and if it's that important to you, then you should ask them. No one here knows who they are or what they did years ago. it's been my experience that the Thai culture is very much "live and let live". If these are your friends then please read the previous sentence. Edited December 25, 201312 yr by Diplomatico
December 27, 201312 yr A lot of ladies work in Nana and Silom, Pattaya and Phuket. A job's a job. Edited December 27, 201312 yr by Soi Sauce
December 27, 201312 yr A lot of ladies work in Nana and Silom, Pattaya and Phuket. A job's a job. That should be further qualified by a jobs a job where most ladies interact with foreigners (in most companies this is simply not the case) and therefore the probability of finding a foreign husband are extremely high.
December 27, 201312 yr Didn't know that the Internet is called "salon".....nowadays. I'm learning more as I grow older!!!!
December 28, 201312 yr It sounds like the latest excuse for where their wives really worked, the excuse I use to hear all the time was they worked in Robinson's,the department store! Obviously that causes way too much hilarity these days so the latest incarnation is "The Salon"!
December 29, 201312 yr OP, go ahead and ask them. I don't think they mind, and please don't forget to share their answer.
