Why So Afraid?

Just read the old topic discussing reasons of Anti-Americanism - which has now been closed.

2 Questions-

1) How did a lot of those old contributors get banned? (presumably they are still around under new avatars!)

2) Why are people so scared of discussing the influence and the perception of US hegemony around the world? Surely this is a legitimate topic to discuss, particularly in a developing country like Thailand which takes its influences from both east and west. A lot of comments seem to suggest that Thai people are unaware and uninterested in international political development therefore such topics are irrelevant here. Not my experience, Ive met many Thai people who are both knowledgeable and opinionated about US culture and US foreign policy.

Like it or not the US has a big influence around the world - including Thailand. This forum should not ignore it and allow sensible constructive discussion on it.

Well theres always that other forum, with no moderation, and all that happens there is every single thread ends in a slanging match. At the end of the day, rules is rules and if you dont want to follow them its upto the mods to sort the problem out. We all step out of line at some time or another but most of us learn that when a mod says enough is enough, then its wise to take note. Added to he fact that the other topic was over 2 yeas old and half the people who contributed to that thread have either left or been banned.

I'd like to point out that a certain poster, lets call him Daleyboy has been discussing moderation issues and should therefore be banned henceforth.

It has nothing to do with fear. The problem with these topics is that within a very few posts, the Thailand connection is forgotten and the discussion turns to international politics overall, which is not what this forum is intended for - there are countless other venues on the web where you can have such discussions. Once the topic goes into international politics, it then brings all the web warriors out of the woodwork, posting their favourite conspiracy theory sites, anti-muslim, anti-american and anti-thai... etc. Then people get their blinders on, and it all becomes a match in personal quips instead of a sensible discussion.

As stated in the rules which everyone agrees to when they sign up, moderation is not to be discussed in the open forum.

If you have an issue concerning moderation, you are welcome to take it up in a PM to the Mod in question or to Admin.
