Hi!

I'm coming back to Thailand for second time, and would like to visit some beautiful pictureresque places that are not yet heavily dominated by tourists. I realize this is probably impossible by now, but I am crossing my fingers. If you know of some nice islands or generally really beautiful nature, please share.

It's not too difficult, but best to know a bit of the language and have your own transport. Head up to Issan. Many interesting places to see. Great temples, very nice national parks, etc. Again, getting to these on public transport is very time consuming. You won't see many foreign tourists, but lots of local ones.

Head down the coast past Hua Hin. Lots of great beaches that are not touristy. If you have your own transport, you can really explore. Great places to find that aren't listed on any foreigner oriented websites.

If a place is highlighted in Lonely Planet or Rough Guide, you know it'll be touristy.

I just been to Koh Chang with my family for 5 days.

One word I can find is awesome, if you find a hotel a bit South on the Island (west cost) you will not see many people on the beaches.

About 70-80% of the island is natural park, so the mountains are left alone and only max 4 story hotels are allowed.

This is the most beautiful island I seen in Thailand, no airport and no bridges so you can only get over there with the ferry which limit the amount of people that goes there, lets hope they keep it that way.

Mae Sot (although there are some tourists and quite a few NGO type expats)? Or how about most places in Isarn (as suggested by other posters)? Chumporn, Ao Manao, Nakorn Sri Thammarat, well the list goes on...just stay away from the heavily promoted tourist cities such as Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya, Krabi, Samui, etc. and you probably won't see a whole lot of tourists.

Phimai, about 40 minutes northeast of Korat, is a nice place to spend a couple of days. We've got ruins (Prasat Hin Pima)i a museum and the largest banyan tree in Thailand (Sai Ngam).

There's a pretty nice newly renovated hotel called Phimai Paradise a short walk from the ruins and night market. (I've mentioned this place before, I don't work for them...but my brother has stayed there twice..and we use the pool sometimes for a few baht) They have a website.

The mountains of Chiang Rai are incredible. You can book tours out to the middle of nowhere...local tribes in traditional garb..different languages and dialects....very cool area.

I have booked some great off beat tours with "Friends of Nature" travel, in Bangkok. Ask for Khun Daeng..she speaks English well.

Not true -- Wat NongWan the nine-story wat on lake Bung KaenNakorn often has loads of tour buses parked there ... all Thai tourists.

Head up to the north. Nan province, Mae Hong Son province are really beautiful places. Rent a motorbike and travel around - you will be amased for sure. There will be some tourists there especially in MHS but still beautiful and pitoresque. Loei province with national parks as Phu Reua and Phu Kradung is nice too.

I have been living in Thailand for almost 3 years now.One of my favourite places to visit is the stunning island of Koh Sichang ( not to be confused with Koh Chang ) It is a lovely island just a 45 minute boat ride from Si Racha.The boats run every hour at a price of 50 Baht.The island is small but has everything.It has very few visitors but weekends very popular with the Thais from Bangkok.Accommodation is available from 200 baht a night for something basic.Its great for walking and exploring and has some nice unspoilt beaches with white sand and clear water.Its a great place to get away from all the " hustle & bustle " and a great place to ride a bicycle.I often visit the island and take some great photos ( see photo attached ).Its one of Thailand's " best kept secrets " so please don't tell anybody..........

Golden Buddha Resort off of Takuapa on Koh Phra Thong. Eco friendly bungalows,deserted beaches, island forest.

After a few days there go up to Khao Sok National Park.

When are you coming? The tourist numbers will soon start to fall away as we get closer to the hot and wet seasons.

I would take in Chiang Rai and the stunning white temple. I would also visit Kanchanaburi - it is a tourist location but has a lot going for it.

Another vote for Chiang Rai.

Several beaches in Chanthaburi. The are is lacking whore bars though if that is your thing.
