Is The Hangover 2 the second worst farang film about Bkk ever?

Judge the film how you want although the reason I piped up is because someone who was obviously unable to understand the film was slating it.

Here we go, another elitist, intellectual, film critic rides in on his high horse. cheesy.gif

OK, I am curious about English speaking movies set in Thailand, Philipines or any SE Asian country. What in your opinions are the good ones? They can be funny, crime or action, I have seen a few on this thread:

Hangover II - I thought it was funny and did enjoy it.

Bangkok Dangerous - Not a big fan of Nickolas Cage but I still liked it. Didn't know till today that this is a remake of a Thai Language movie

Bangkok Adrenaline _ thought it was silly and low budget but some parts cracked me up.

Bangkok Revenge - Jon Foo is amazing, very entertaining but that is about it.

So who has a list of good ones?

You forgot Brokedown Palace, that was another good one shot in Bangkok.

Kickboxer with jean claude vandamme i was ashamed to be Belgian god that guy made some crap movies.

Jealous much? name some of the movies you've made, I'm excited to see what movies a genius like you has produced.

Nah he doesnt live far from me so i can say it in his face if i think one of his movies suck.

You live in California? yeah I'm sure you easily could, that's why you have done so already right? you would get a swift kick in the head. wink.png

He moved back to Belgium a few years ago smart arse he lives with his wife Gladys Portugese in a town called Knokke by the Belgian coast his mother and father also live in said town two weeks after moving back here he parked his suv drunk in to a tree it was al over the news here.

See? That's the problem with, um, actually LIVING here; one misses rubbing elbows with luminaries like van Damme.

The demographic target for the Hangover movies is well below the average age of Thai Visa members.

The opinions are not unexpected.

I hear Ben Hur was a pretty good movie....probably more the kind of movie for crusty TV members with no sense of humor.

If ladyboy tomfoolery is your brand of humour you've come to the right place. Who cares about demographics ? Some TV members have been known to hammer Steven Leather and others if their descriptions of various bars have even one chair out of place.

But beyond the one dimensional expectations of the Thermae's colour scheme, one does expect a certain level of wit, charm, edification and (dare I say it ?) entertainment from a mainstream film.

If as you contend the film is pitched to a crowd of post "gap year" Kao San returnees then yes reasonable return on one's entertainment investment is not to be expected.

But surely you are not suggesting that expat residents of Bangkok descend to the puerile, the jejune and the simple-minded level of Jackass 4 aficionados are you?

Well, I suppose if "demographia" be the muse and the student loan season is once again upon us, a solid pre-college dose of poorly written, badly set, ham-fistedly promoted nonsense must really rock your world.

Sad.

fairly ironic, as Thialand would be one of the more likely of places you would run into Van Damme, since he travels here all the time.

Nope, compared to Bangkok Adrenaline, Bangkok Dangerous deserves an oscar ! Adrenaline is by far the worst I have ever seen involving Bangkok.

BTW, have an Thai movies been filmed in Europe or America, would like to see what their depiction would be like ?

Dear Galileo

One of my favourite Thai movies. Got it on DVD.

I thought Lost in Translation was pretty boring. Also now that I have lived in Bangkok, I know the film is completely inaccurate - nothing like Bangkok at all.

On my top 10 list of movies. But, as others have already said, nothing whatsoever to do with Thailand!

Well he just had hip replacement surgery done in the beginning of 2013 in hospital in a town called Gent in Belgium ,his hollywood lifestyle was beginning to take its toll on him a few years back and he was a wreck when he came back coke and heroin can do that to a person. He got back in shape for the expendables 2 over here and is very good friends with tony jaa.

I didnt like kickboxer because it has nothing to with muay thai actually and his so called opponent in the movie tong po or whatever he was called was a second rate porn actor and the only lines they had was may lee good fxxk .

So if thats youre idea of good movie whatever rocks youre boat pall.

That's the second time you've posted such a comment.

Yet you also post comments like

To OP you obviously know very little about movies or movie making, there are so many bad movies made in Bangkok, go watch Ryan Gosling's train wreck, 'Only God Forgives', and that 'Street Fighter' movie was another embarrassing piece of crap. I could name more, but can't be bothered.

So tell us, what films have you made?

Film makers make their films not only for people to watch and enjoy, but to make money.

That money comes from the people who pay to see the film; in the cinema, on DVD, on subscription TV.

As I am paying the film maker, I have the right to say whether or not I enjoyed the film; whether I thought it a work of genius or whether I thought, in your words, it was an embarrassing piece of crap.

So what, I'm not even talking to you, are you the OP? btw you just said it, we are all entitled to our opinion, so I gave mine. Plus I'm not the one saying an enjoyable, funny, or entertaining move was crap, like mr brussels is above.

Well I am the OP and I ditto him.

<you obviously know very little about movies or movie making>

And your knowledge of what I know about movies is because you are psychic and can read my mind through the computer screen?

Contributing to the discussion is one thing, but just making pointless and fatuous statements adds nothing, but it says a lot about you.

Some quotes removed to allow posting.

Maybe, before you criticize another person's efforts, think if you could do better. And if so, send your script in for consideration. Otherwise just shut-up and go back to your barstool at Nana.

Lots of investors are looking for great scripts if you have good ideas for a movie.

There are kindy kids could do better than Hangover 2.

At least they know that you can't go by speedboat from Bkk to Krabi in a couple of hours.

My complaint isn't with the script, it's with the shoddy and lazy production.

With Hangover 1, they proved that they could make an entertaining film. I think they just wanted to make money with 2, and didn't care about the viewing public they were exploiting.

The Hangover is a comedy not a documentary, it is meant to be funny which it was, I laughed so hard during the ladyboy scene I almost pissed myself.

Now Bangkok Dangerous was just ok, a action movie not a documentary again, meant to entertain not educate you. Watch them for what they are not what you want them to be.

"That's why they call it Bangkok......"

"Ewwww, exactly how does that work?"

Very funny scene for sure.....

Lots of great lines!!

Was ok. A 6 out of 10 movie. Everyone knows a beardy weirdy like Alan (think that's his name). The thai characters a bit colourless though, the strict father in law character was a stereotype straight out of Wayne's world 2

Quite liked the beach as well though as an accurate depiction of thailand would say the Koh pa Ngan scenes were the only accurate ones. Not many wildernesses left now. But as escapism goes it was alright

EH!

None of the movie was filmed in koh Phangan. It was made in Phi Phi Leh and Krabi town. Even the Bkk scenes were done in Krabi town.

If you are referring to the supposed FMP, I never saw a FMP like they came up with.

Nicholas Cage ? Ugly, balding, utterly over-rated Nicholas Cage (Cappola) How 'bout the utterly moronic "The Island" ? With astronomically over-rated cardigan model Leonardo DiCaprio ? (Helluva ladies' man they say ;;-) This stinker was pieced together from an utterly incomprehensible novel written by a Kao San backpacker whose daddy, a cartoonist for some London Daily rag or other was owed favours by mates in publishing. Execrable. And they wonder why everyone downloads whatever they can.

I thought DiCaprio was very good in Django Unchained. By far his best movie.

Saw it on tv the other day. Utterly excrable and lazy film making. They even added police sirens in the street to the soundtrack, for some reason.

I say second worst, because no film could be worse than the appalling Nicholas Cage mutilation of Bangkok Dangerous. Truly an abomination.

I found it very funny... But im not very old :P

The worst film about Bangkok is "Only God Forgives" (2013) Talk about being execrable, this film has to go down as the worst film ever made.

(Happy NewYear)

The director Winding-Refn should really just have accepted a long time ago that his strength is the actualy cinematic effects, the visuals, setting the tone and feeling which he really does masterfully and then let some real director do the actual dialogue and plot. His films are even to 'artsy' for 'art house', they are nothing but visual showcases - as good as they are at that.

I can't believe that movie critics haven't seen through this a long time ago, the guy is an ART-director, not a DIRECTOR.

I agree. Looked good, except for too much red. Could've been a good movie.
