UK passport overlap

Featured Replies

Got a question UK passports got five years left on it but run out of pages so I need a new one. Can I get a new passport and still use the old one to exit Thailand about a month after receiving the new one and then use the new one to enter Laos and get my new visa.

Will try to contact British Embassy as well but thought maybe someone on here has already had the experience.

If you have a valid visa in your old passport it remains valid. You use both passports on entry showing visa in old one.

For first trip out of the country you will show both passports and the immigration officer will transfer your entry/permit to stay stamp to new passport and stamp you out in new one.

Hi Joe I'll have a sixty day extension in the old passport and I've heard they'll not transfer an extension to a new passport otherwise the easiest way would be go to immigration with the new one and get them to transfer.

Since you will only have a 60 day extension you can just leave showing both passports. Only one year extensions have to be transfered at immigration.

For the avoidance of doubt the old passport is no longer valid, but the visa within is, so you are not using the old passport for travel.
