Why Does The South Hate The North So Much?

Featured Replies

I know that is a simplistic question but it doesn’t make sense.

The Thaksin regime worked for the poor, made their lives a bit easier in the North AND the South but the southerners hate him so much! Why have the southern villagers aligned themselves with the Bangkok elite? Did the Thaksin regime abandon them at some time? What’s going on here?

This is not going to end well ......

your question makes it clear that you are either very new to Thailand or oblivious.

Do some research before posting. Really very vague and naive question.

David does a head shake and a sigh.

zeichen, could be some truth in what you say.

But, I know, for sure, the OP has oversimplified what is a complex issue

which has many, many layers.

EDIT ... even your geographical regions are demographically and politicly misaligned.

Your assumption that Thaksin ever "worked for the poor" is a bit faulty, as I doubt his motives were altruistic.

And I'm sure the supposed "public service" concept surprised the recipients as much as it did the competing elites.

That part of Thailand was not too long ago an independent Muslim sultanate, and is now ruled by chauvinistic Buddhists from hundreds of km away as a result of geopolitical/colonial machinations only marginally related to internal Thai politics at the time.

Some level of historical resentment is inevitable.

Class redistribution issues are relatively unimportant, pale in comparison.

No hate, just different tribal loyalties.

You really need to do some research.

Exactly what I'm doing here but getting abused for asking the question!

Unbelievable!!!

You asked a OP which included a political statement, so, you will

feel a level of discourse with your original assumption.

samran replied in an even tone.

Your reply, your tone with all the exclamation marks indicates your tension.
