Hello guys!

I'm usually just browsing the forum but now I need your attention.

Me and my husband found a sick kitten abandoned in Lumpini park during Songkran holiday. We took him to the vet and he is now fully recovered and staying with a lady from Soi Dog Rescue waiting to be adopted. He is now around 4.5 month old and is a really cute kitten loves to be cuddled. We'd love to keep him but our life style is just not great for having pets so we would like to find someone who can give him lots of love and care to make him a happy cat!

He had really serious viral infection when we found him and were in really bad shape, the vet was really surprised that he is now recover to be a normal kitten, so I would say it's a miracle.

We named him Lupi and you can find a video clip of him taken on May 14th at the clinic:

anyone who is interested please contact me via email/msn: [email protected]

cheers!

:o What you have done is admirable but, in my opinion, mental. Thee are so many stray cats and dogs and while the sdr women do a good job in feeding and de sexing, in my honest - and harsh opinion - the final solution would be the best. Has it been doctored? Will it have to live inside? I would consider taking a pet on - the girls would love it but what to do when one leaves LOS?

Good luck though.

We know there are a lot of stray cats a dogs, it's not like we go out and walk around finding them. We were just taking a walk in the park during Songkran holiday and he was there right before we were leaving the park. The poor little thing will obviously abandoned and will die if we just left him there so we just did what we could do.

We took Lupi to the small animal hospital at Chulalongkorn University on Henri Dunant Road the very first night we found him. He was treated right away and since we couldn't keep him in our service apartment so we took him to the Plaplubcha animal hospital in China town area which the vet from Chulalongkorn University recommended. He was then under intense care of the vet there, we understood it was not great for a cat to live in a cage but he was really sick so we thought it was better to leave him with the vet so he can have full medical attention as we couldn't spent too much time at home. Three weeks later after we talked to SDR, we took him to the vet at Suk.49 for 2nd opinion. He then stayed there for a week and was taken back to foster home where he is right now.

We consider he is a very lucky kitten as he was in really bad shape when we found him. but now after everyone's loving care he is turned to a perfectly normal kitten. I visited him just yesterday and took more video of him. He is now gaining weight and is full of energy. SDR ladies are helping us to find adopters, they also arrange overseas adoptions but of course the priority is in Thailand. A lot of people take their pets with them when they are relocated, as long as you do the research and follow the regulations it is not that difficult. Some airlines even allow cats to stay in the cabin with the owner (in the carriing case of course).

Erin, thanks to you and your husband for showing compassion. Put up a poster in Villa Supermarket... heaps of people read the noticeboard in the Suk 33 Road store. Leisurely raises a good point - because it was going to cost around $6,000 back in 1997 to take our cat from Bangkok to Melbourne, plus not being able to see her for 6 months due to quarantine laws, my family decided to give her to the landlord. She adores his family, and they love her too. She's an old dame - about 14 years old now - and she started life as an unspayed soi cat.

Sorry, I opened a can of worms, type first think second is the way I carry on. I would not consider taking an animal into a country that had a 6 month quarantine law. It is unfair to the animal and extremely expensive.

Just my opinion though.

Another thought on rehoming. Have you considered putting up a notice in a couple of the international schools in Bankok or an advert in their magazines. Could be worht a try.

Thanks for the suggestions. I did asked my friend who is teaching at an international school in Thonglor area to put up a poster for me, as I don't live in Bangkok so it is difficult for me to go around and put up ads, so I thought I would start here in the forum.

We have a potential adopter to visit Lupi on Wednesday and she did mentioned that if she did adopt Lupi then it would be for life, means she will take him back to the States (where there's no qurantine required) when she is leaving Thailand, so we're keeping our fingers crossed! I'll keep updating the situation, thanks again for all the concern and please forward the video link if you think it might help!

Cheers!

Lupi is adopted!!!

He is now a member of an American family, and they would take him with them if they left Thailand. We will try to keep track on his new life and update here, thanks for all the support here!

Well, you know that every good story has a bad side. Do you realise the food vendoors that you have cheated of 30 or 40 baht in income from mystery meat on a stick.

So happy to read this -- and good for you, Erin. You'll be rewarded for it...helping a cat brings wonderful karma.

When I saw the title of the post I didn't dare read it as I feared it would break my heart since I couldn't have adopted him (the cat who owns me flatly refuses to share me with any other cats. I tried once, massive failure and serious furr flying). So I waited till I saw plenty of replies and then took a loow hoping for a happy ending, and sure enough, I got one!

Personally I have never bought the "there are thousands of (sick animals/poor people/whatever) and you can't help all of them" argument. It doesn't make sense to me that just because we can't help all, we shouldn't help any. Plus I believe things happen for reasons and if there is an animal or human right in our path in need of help,it is because we are supposed to help them.

Totally agree with you Sheryl, no one is able to help everyone but with a little bit of help from different place we can sure make a difference. I'm glad that I could help Lupi, but I have to say that I wouldn't have found him a home so fast without SDR's help. There are some great people at SDR doing great things to help the animals in need and I really admire that.

very well said sheryl! why not take in a stray animal and make a difference for this one instead of getting one from the store/breeder? if more people would do so the soi dog/cat problem would be far less severe.
