Democrat leader: Attack on party HQ an intimidation
By Digital Content

BANGKOK, Jan 13 – Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva said today that today's early morning shooting into the coffee shop at the party headquarters was a political intimidation.

He called on the government to urgently end the current political conflicts, saying the Election Commission (EC) has proposed delaying the general election but caretaker Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra claimed in her statement to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon that the government was not authorised to do that.

“If the election is postponed, (the government) should agree with society on which direction the country will move on. It’s not a matter of solving the problem merely to enable the government to stay on in power. It’s the government’s duty to find a resolution for the nation,” said Mr Abhisit.

After inspecting the damage at his party quarters, Mr Abhisit and some party executives took the BTS Skytrain from Aree station for Pathumwan – one of the six rally sites for the Bangkok shutdown -- to meet the anti-government protesters.

The anti-government protesters from the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) have begun occupying major intersections and closed roads under the Bangkok Shutdown campaign to pressure caretaker PM to resign. (MCOT online news)

The protests have already been a success. For one, they are peaceful ( unlike the nightly vigilante attacks on them ). For another, they have put the administration into a stalemate. They are already in a position where they will be unable to open parliament next month. For some odd reason, many supporters of the administration consider that a great victory. But it won't once it becomes apparent that an unopened parliament means a powerless administration.

What a farce Abhisit is. I wouldn't be surprised if it's own thugs linked to Comrade Suthep are doing it.

“If the election is postponed, (the government) should agree with society on which direction the country will move on. It’s not a matter of solving the problem merely to enable the government to stay on in power. It’s the government’s duty to find a resolution for the nation,” said Mr Abhisit.

Suthep has made it clear already even if the election is postponed they will not stop.

After inspecting the damage at his party quarters, Mr Abhisit and some party executives took the BTS Skytrain from Aree station for Pathumwan – one of the six rally sites for the Bangkok shutdown -- to meet the anti-government protesters.

Yes, this is the real Abhisit and the Democrat Party backing and mingling with the protesters.

I say it once again The Democrats is the political wing of the PDRC.

Looking at the numbers today of the rallies, I doubt their were more then 250,000-300,000 protesters which means they are in the minority.

Well he is still in Thailand.

He was hiding at the 30th floor of the luxury 6 star BTS station..

I was at Asoke for around 2 hours today. Permanent squatters - sitting under the awnings - were no more than 2,000. I stood there and did a mental calculation of the rows and the depth under the two awnings. Then there were the walkers - those Bangkokians coming to take a look-see armed with flags and whistles and taking selfies of themselves. So at any one time, I reckon there were no more than 8,000 to 10,000 at any one time. And like me, many of the crowd were just curious and came out for the fun of it. I think, to be fair, there were a lot more at the MBK site.

And further evidence of either funding is drying up or enthusiasm is drying up - there was a walk-by down Petchburi Road today. No more than 500 people. A fraction of what they had back in November and December

These figures being thrown around by their PR department are ludicrous IMHO.

No more than 2000

No more than 8000

No more than 12000

At any one time

At any one time

Righto

If you are interested in the amount of people today, Blue Sky has some images (if you dare :))

I believe when the weekend approaches, and when on Wednesday the rice farmers still won't get paid, the situation will intensify. Even though the protestors have done a good job today getting settled strategically.

But.... a few hundred thousand is enough to force Yingluck out so maybe not to many protestors is better for day to day life.

Extremely sad figure.

He got a large part of his education in a democratic country, but he doesn't understand anything about democracy.

He belongs to a minority of 'richer' people. He did not succeed in conving a majority of his beliefs.

Blaming about corruption is ridiculous, because corruption is unfortunately everywhere in Thai society. It makes no distinction between parties.

Let the democratic process move forward, have elections and then work together for ONE Thailand!

The PTP are aware of a gullible uneducated narrow voter base being manipulated. Wikileaks released documents showing that America approved of the coup in 2006. They knew it was a return to democracy. It reiterates that it is post ballot box actions that molds a govts sincerity to democracy. All that elections do is give them a chance to show it. Of course PTP supporters will only ever say, but but but but we won the election because they cannot state any other democratic principles that the PT adhere to. Their form of democracy means threatening army chiefs daughters with kidnapping and death. Their form of democracy means threatening judges with kidnapping. Their form of democracy means the World bank, Moody's, UNHCR, Human Rights Watch, the DEMS, the Environmentalists, the corn farmer, academics, global economists, IMF was all wrong. Why? Because they have opposing view points. Their form of democracy is being backup up by the UDD which is more a paramilitary unit that a lover of democracy. They state principle #3 is non violence, but Jatuporn tells his supporters to use children as human shields and to paint the sky red. Red with blood. So much for the principles! Carry the b#llshit and let the UDD square root it and you have the PTP's form of democracy. Of the 8 principles of democracy they adhere to 1. They will defend 1. They will let their gullible followers die for 1. The other 7? Silence. They won the election. So when you say democratic process. What you really mean is one characteristic of it. ELECTIONS. Unless of course forcing MP's to vote for an amnesty against the voice of their electorate. Unless of course telling the population that they are garbage if they disagree with you and want public water management hearings. Unless of course changing a senate to ensure it is filled with TS puppets because TS is fully aware of the weakness in Thai democracy and wants to fully abuse it. To think that western educated people can still say "let the democratic process move forward" I say "Let the democratic process begin"

Oh dear you obviously haven't read wikileaks on thailand have you?

Best to some up what Sondhi, leader of the PAD said.

So predictable. No rebuttal on what I said heay? They say supporters mirror the party they support. If you can't win the argument then ignore it and say something else about the opposition. It is what you didn't say regarding my comments on the UDD / PTP that speak volumes. Not what you did say.

Parrot - It is PDRC by the way. Unless your reference is actually to the PCAD?? (Pennsylvania College of Art and Design)

BTW - Reading your comments highlights you have understood nothing of my comments.

":If the PCAD get their way there is nothing stopping a mob from returning later to repeat and repeat to upend an elected government in the future."

So if the Pennsylvania College of Art and Design get their way (PDRC maybe?) which is allowing every other principle of democracy to flourish as well as one other principle which is elections then a mob will upend them? Well I must agree. Only if Jatuporn is leading the charge and he is not the winner of that election.

What a load of biased crap !

The red fools keep saying the same thing about every damn attack against the protestors. ''Wah wah wah Suthep is doing it to his own side wah wah'' Total <deleted> !

And why in the hell shouldn't the Democrats be affiliated with the PDRC when the PT party is made up in part of UDD terrorists and they have their red militia !?

The number of protestors on the streets is never an accurate measure of sentiment throughout the country, there are a large number of people who do not attend the protests as they are working or too old or taking care of the kids or whatever reason they have, but there are certainly a hell of a lot of people who support what they are fighting for...

Seriously johnathan - in order to be taken seriously around here you must ensure the following before posting:

1. If you are going to criticise someone's intelligence (especially those with a higher degree of education than yourself apparently), try to use punctuation, even a comma once and awhile, and spell check. Failing that send your draft over to a friend qualified to edit before posting.

2. If you are going to make reference to someone's quality of statements, provide an example.

Say repeat 3 times (aloud) preferably on television.
