We bought some land near Chiang Mai that is surrounded by Lamyai / Longan trees. We build our house about 20 meters from our neighbors land. We spoke with him and he told us that he uses the insecticide abamectin and the fungicide carbendazim once every 2 month on his trees.

We are a bit worried about this and our health. Can anyone with some knowledge about this please give us some advice? They do not use the real nasty stuff like Praquat here at least but I just did a few hours of research on this and dont know how to judge this situation. We dont want to screw with our health but love the land. How serious is ths?

Use Google to find both the label and the MSDS .

For abamectin.

You can do the carbendazim on google .

These will give you all the info about the chemical you need to judge the risks . Also google the LD/50 of these chemicals which is Lethal Dose on how much it needs to kill a mouse or other small animal in a scientific test. Can be quite surprising if you see a comparative chart of LD/50s.

You may need to show the neighbour if you can get a Label or MSDS translated into Thai. He has probably never seen one altho that is an assumption on my part. You may also be doing him a favour by letting him know about the danger to his health too.

Best of Luck
