Accident Lifeguard Rescues French Children Swept Away by Strong Currents at Kata Beach
Picture courtesy of Khaosod. A sea rescue unfolded at Kata Beach when a vigilant lifeguard saved two 12-year-old French children who had become trapped in powerful ocean currents while swimming. The incident, which occurred in the Karon subdistrict of Muang Phuket, was captured on video and later shared widely on social media by a Facebook user under the name Kon La Fan Pom Man Jon Loey Tong Su. The footage shows the response of the on-duty lifeguard, who paddled out on a surfboard to reach the boy and girl. According to eyewitnesses, the siblings had been playing in the water when they were suddenly swept further out to sea by the waves. Despite their efforts, they were unable to swim back to shore. Fortunately, the lifeguard noticed their distress almost immediately and sprang into action. Paddling through challenging conditions, the lifeguard reached the children and brought them both safely back to the beach, where they were reunited with their anxious parents. The parents expressed their gratitude for the lifeguard’s timely intervention. “We are incredibly thankful,” the children’s father said. “Without the lifeguard’s quick action, the situation could have ended very differently.” In a follow-up, the lifeguard took time to walk the French family along the beach to explain the safety signage posted along the shoreline. He pointed out which areas are designated safe for swimming and which zones should be avoided due to strong undercurrents and hidden hazards. Phuket’s beaches, while renowned for their beauty, are known to experience dangerous rip currents, particularly during the rainy season. Local authorities regularly urge visitors to pay close attention to warning flags and lifeguard advice. Adapted by Asean Now from Khaosod 2025-07-12 -

Would you send your kids to harvard?
totally agree with these comments. O especially when president "enticed" kids to do whatever possible (take out big loans) to get that piece of paper when many of the kids did so with no real thought of what they might not be able to do with that piece of paper. Now they are hampered in living well trying to stay up with the loans. Then Biden and company decided that the government would forgive many of these people so what does that teach folks - don't be responsible is what it seems to me and trade schools would have been a much better choice for many. we always need plumbers, electricions, etc and computer gurus who can earn good wages. But yeah, if a family can afford any college for any degree without having to consider the future of their children that is their choice. I think most parents want only the best for their children and that is why they have them and care for them but seems society has a way of destroying the best efforts of parents today. A scary world awaits those college grads and the careers have been changing rapidly too and people must learn to adjust. Best of luck. -

Tariffs, tariff and tariffs again
I see the Trump nutters have been let loose again. On the subject of tariffs they start ranting and trying to deflect as usual. Derangement indeed. It's embarrassing to see how they try to cover up for him. 90 deals in 90 days. Where are they? How many have been done? Let's stick to the subject, rather than trying to deflect the subject on to something else. What comment do you have about the letters going out with regard to the tariffs? They make a mockery of Trumps continuous lies about countries rushing to do deals. It seems the majority have simply ignored him altogether, so he's reduced to writing poorly worded letters in a vain attempt to grab their attention. This is the reality. Trump fanettes here are like gamblers who fail to mention quite how much they lose, so try to deflect the conversation onto what they might have won. True derangement and a perfect anecdotal riposte to their continued gaslighting. Don't try to start any left/right nonsense with me. Stick to the subject. The success or otherwise of Trump's tariff gambit. Let's keep to known facts. Trump's fanettes won't be able to do it. They'll collapse under the pressure and start ranting about something else. Truth for them is a stranger. Just like their dear leader. -

Tourism Phuket Tourism Surges, Earning 223 Billion Baht from Tourists
The exact numbers always amuse me with their projections. Anywhere else they'd say approximately 200,000 tourists generating close to 3 billion baht. But, of course, the TAT calculator is famous for its magical figures! -

Accident London-Bound Air India Flight Crashes Near Ahmedabad
India's AAIB has released its Preliminary Report into the crash of AI flight 171: The aircraft achieved the maximum recorded airspeed of 180 Knots IAS at about 08:08:42 UTC and immediately thereafter, the Engine 1 and Engine 2 fuel cutoff switches transitioned from RUN to CUTOFF position one after another with a time gap of 01 sec. The Engine N1 and N2 began to decrease from their take-off values as the fuel supply to the engines was cut off. In the cockpit voice recording, one of the pilots is heard asking the other why did he cutoff. The other pilot responded that he did not do so. As per the EAFR data both engines N2 values passed below minimum idle speed, and the RAT hydraulic pump began supplying hydraulic power at about 08:08:47 UTC. As per the EAFR, the Engine 1 fuel cutoff switch transitioned from CUTOFF to RUN at about 08:08:52 UTC. The APU Inlet Door began opening at about 08:08:54 UTC, consistent with the APU Auto Start logic. Thereafter at 08:08:56 UTC the Engine 2 fuel cutoff switch also transitions from CUTOFF to RUN. When fuel control switches are moved from CUTOFF to RUN while the aircraft is inflight, each engines full authority dual engine control (FADEC) automatically manages a relight and thrust recovery sequence of ignition and fuel introduction. The EGT was observed to be rising for both engines indicating relight. Engine 1’s core deceleration stopped, reversed and started to progress to recovery. Engine 2 was able to relight but could not arrest core speed deceleration and re-introduced fuel repeatedly to increase core speed acceleration and recovery. The EAFR recording stopped at 08:09:11 UTC At about 08:09:05 UTC, one of the pilots transmitted “MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY”. The ATCO enquired about the call sign. ATCO did not get any response but observed the aircraft crashing outside the airport boundary and activated the emergency response. At 08:14:44 UTC, Crash Fire Tender left the airport premises for Rescue and firefighting. They were joined by Fire and Rescue services of Local Administration. The flap handle assembly sustained significant thermal damage. The handle was found to be firmly seated in the 5-degree flap position, consistent with a normal takeoff flap setting. The position was also confirmed from the EAFR data. The landing gear lever was in “DOWN” position. The thrust lever quadrant sustained significant thermal damage. Both thrust levers were found near the aft (idle) position. However, the EAFR data revealed that the thrust levers remained forward (takeoff thrust) until the impact. Both fuel control switch were found in the “RUN” position. (fig.13) The reverser levers were bent but were in the “stowed” position. The wiring from the TO/GA switches and autothrottle disconnect switches were visible, but heavily damaged. The aircraft is equipped with two Enhanced Airborne Flight Recorders (EAFR) part number 866-0084-102. The EAFR are fitted at two locations, one in the tail section at STA 1847 and other in the forward section at STA 335. The two EAFRs are similar in construction and record a combined data stream of digital flight data and cockpit voice information, with both stored on the same device. The downloaded flight data contained approximately 49 hours of flight data and 6 flights, including the event flight. The recovered audio was two hours in length and captured the event. Initial Analysis of the recorded audio and flight data has been done.
