Regarding post 11 by manfromcanada

Not exactly true. If you are applying for the new 10 year passport you can do it at any time. More pages, longer lasting. I was going to

but I had two years left and what I thought were more than enough pages. Now I have one page left and wish I had done it. Cheaper

and easier to do it while in Canada

Only assuming - doesn't the computer-record of everything visa-related make it waste of time playing the 'lost passport' game ?

As far as I know embassies and consulates do not have access to records of previous passports and/or visas.

Immigration does have the ability to do a check on entry to the country.

He will not have a problem anyway if he doesn't change passports.

You should know that lying to your embassy about a supposedly lost passport is illegal .... and can result in you not (never?) getting a new passport. Very stupid of you to conspire to do so on a public forum and to state your nationality.

You are on a public forum saying you're thinking of committing fraud in order to make it easier to get a visa. More chance of you being locked up. Don't you think they keep records at Immigration? They will know what visas you've had even if you get a new passport. Ridiculous that you're even thinking about this.

Phone my friend, Joanne Varin, at the Visa Section, in the Royal Thai Embassy. She will send all information and forms by e-mail. You will have to obtain a police security clearance (about CAD25), do that at your local police station not at the RCMP, a medical clearance, a bank statement, supply three copies of the application, supply 3 copies of the Additional Information Form, copy of return ticket, 2 photographs, and a money order or bank draft (about CAD190), passport, and a copy of your Canadian Citizenship if you are a naturised citizen. Some of the documents will have to be notarised. Joanne will let you know what the amount of payment is. Apply for a Multi-Re-Entry Non Immigrant O-A Visa. When you apply, send by registered mail and enclose the appropriate return envelope. The process takes 1 week, so send on a Friday and get back by the next Friday. With that visa, you have 3 months to enter the country. Stay until the deadline of the visa stamp on entry and if you want another year come back to Thailand before the expiry date on the visa issued from the embassy. I know, a lot of work to get the visa but worth it. No sweat if you do things as described. Do not lose your passport use the old one or get a replacement.

how much money do you have and what is your income and also 800 000 Baht in the

bank, that's all they are interested in.

First of all, perphaps the OP was a little naive in using the words he used, however obtaining a new passport is no fraud, and in soem case (not this one), actually advisable or necessary.

Second, Visa applications are made to Consular offices, not Immigration. And they do not necessarily have or check records.

To loose your passport is a really bad idea.

For one, it is not legal and will give the authorities a handle on you.

And even more important, the Immigration is not so backwards, that they would not know, when you show up with a new passport. All your previous entries and visas are in their database. So to 'loose' will not hide your previous visas.

If you qualify (!) for a retirement visa and want to have it, then go for it. A list of papers to supply is to be found on the internet.

You came late in being the judge of things that did not even happen. Simply, the OP dind't know that there are legal ways to request a new passport, thing that is needed at times, as it has been repeated ad nauseam,

Late again. Imigrations does not issue visa. Consular offices do, and no, they do not have access to entries and all visa records. As mentioned by ubonjoe and others above. Please read full threads before posting.

Is there any problem to just change your passport? Even if couple of years left to your passport to get expire you can just say I want to have more white pages. The passport office would be glad to charge you for the new passport.

Far easier to get a Non-Immigrant O visa from a Thai Consulate at home and convert to a Retirement Extension in Thailand every year until you expire.

Oops, I'm not a judge of anything except my own life.

And why would anybody not know, that to request a new passport is legal? Escapes me. Else I accept your critique.

The difference between Consular office and Immigration has been posted by myself also very recently. so I know that. Point is not, that the consulates have the data, but that Immigration is collecting them. And that is easy with the help of the T.M numbers on the arrival/departure cards.

AND they know it, when you show up with a new passport.

This thread is about getting a new visa (at a Consulate) when there are previous visa on a passport, and has been already answered by Maestro:

Your visa and travel history has absolutely no effect on your application for a non-O/A visa for retirement in Thailand, nor for subsequent retirement extensions.

Any reference to Immigration, their database, cards or dices, that you keep making, is pointless and off topic.

I have a Canadian friend and csn tell you he had a lot of wait and hassle some years bsck obtaining a fresh pp and his was only full. Took weeks snd he need some apositile or notary or something like that.

Suggest you don't loose it, laundering it might be better. Either way, stupid idea.

Never a good idea to lose your passport but if you have loose pages you will be better off.

Your passport will be marked as a replacement for a lost passport which can cause further scrutiny in the future regarding your identity. And then if you do end up getting your passport stolen or lost in the future, it is only going to raise more eyebrows. If you have loose pages you can get a replacement and it will be marked as a "replacement for a damaged passport" which is better because they'll know the damaged passport was cancelled.

Bottom line being, as previously mentioned, there is no reason for you to get a new passport at this time unless you just enjoy dealing with government employees.
