Visa advice needed

Featured Replies

Hi, I did do some searches om the topic bit didn't find much too concrete. My wife and I are doing a little backpacking and the plan we have now is flying into ho chi ming city backpacking through cambodia, thailand, malaysia and flying out of singapore.

The question I have is about getting a thai visa in ho chi ming city but everywhere I read says you need proof of overland exit of Thailand, we were just planning on taking a train down to Singapore. Is that going to suffice? We leave for HK on the 4th of march so I'm not sure we have enough time to send our application to LA and to be honest I'd rather do it in Vietnam or somewhere like that.

Thanks in advance

The consulate will not accept anything but an air ticket.

How long do you plan on staying in Thailand? If you both are US citizens (or a G7 country) you will get a 30 day entry at a border crossing now (Nov. 1st 2013).

You have plenty of time to get the visa before leaving it only takes a few days to get. Here is a list of honorary consulates in the US perhaps one is near you. http://www.thaiembdc.us/dcdp/Thai_Consulate_Directory2

Oh my gosh, I seriously googled consulates in the US but the closest one was in LA but that list shows one in SLC so that would be amazing! I'll call tomorrow to see if it is real! hah jk.

Will I need a flight out of Thailand to get the tourist visa here in SLC or at the border? thanks, and what is the cost at the border, I know it is 40 for the tourist visa at a consulate.

Will a returning flight out of singapore not count as a returning flight? We're not sure on how long we would be there but if it is cheaper to stay under 30days than that would be fine, we have plenty of ground to cover.

Thanks again.

Most consulates in the US do not require a ticket out of the country. I suggest you get the visa rather than chancing having to leave and return to get another 30 days if you want to stay longer than 30 days in Thailand.

There is no charge for entry to Thailand and you do not need a ticket out at the border.

Hey ubonjoe, are you 100% sure citizens of G7 countries get 30 days on arrival at land crossings? We heard that it had changed back to 15 days since Nov. but this is just hearsay. We haven't found anything from someone who's done it in the last week. We're planning on crossing by land in 2 weeks from Laos. We're currently in Vientiane but we're only staying for 2 days so if we need to go apply and pay for a visa we need to know ASAP!! Thanks!

November 1st was when the new rule allowing 30 day entries went into effect for those from the G7 countries. There have been no changes since.
