Racist Thai teacher

I attend a Thai language school and have this one teacher who just makes me laugh by her complete open disdain for farang and love of all Thai things.

We have to make Thai language conversations about different topics and here are a few examples that come up. She isn't laughing or joking when she makes these statements.

No Thai girl wants a farang unless she's a bargirl. Every Thai girl dreams of a Thai man and a Thai girl can never be happy with a farang as they don't share a common culture.

I have a Labrador and she sees me walking him. She says she hates all farang dogs because they stink and only loves soi dogs. When I say ski dogs are disguting flea riffen and have open sores she says…they are beautiful because they are small and Thai.

Farang stink because they eat cheese and sweat. I say sure, some stink but not all do. She says Thais don't sweat because they're not fat.

She absolutely hates that I know Thai language and always ask why I study it. I tell her wouldn't she want to know the language of a country she is living in? She says Thai language teachers can only teach but no farang can understand it as they don't have Thai blood. I say what about a farang that was born here? She says they won't understand because their mother was a prostitute.

Now I don't want to generalize as out of 10 teachers, she is the only one like this. I rather enjoy talking with her as I've never actually met someone like this. Its almost like meeting a crazy person who is living in society as a normal person with a job, a family and so on.

When I bring up specific points to illustrate the failures of Thai society and inability to compete in a global marketplace, she says it doesn't matter as Thai people are happy living in Thailand and don't need to care about anything outside of the country.:)

She is really obsessed with the topic of Farang faults, isn't she?

It sounds more to me like she was jilted by a Farang and now has a deep hatred of them. From what I understand, these ideas are drilled into Thai children's heads both in their communities and schools, so it might be caused by that. Either way, if she's obsessing so much about this, you can be sure that she's generally a miserable and unhappy person who wants to blame others for her lot in life. I might ask her if Farang are so awful, why do all the women on woman's products marketed to Thais in the store look Farang? In other words, if Farang are so terrible, why do 99% of Thai woman want to look like them?

BTW, if she is only a teacher hired by the school and she is being offensive toward a portion of the class, why don't you just report her to the administrators and make a formal complaint?

Every country has people like this. I have an uncle who is basically the same way about the USA. He never left the country, only eats American staples (burgers, hotdogs, potatoes etc) only buys "American made" products. I figure its their loss not mine

I think she's a member here on TV.

Yes you cant change people like that.. the irony in this story is though she chose a profession where she gets in close contact with the thing she hates.

Though she does have some good points on farang. Its not like we as a group are perfect, many misfits here much higher as back home. Its quite noticeable in the looks and education department.

I have no reason to makes problems for her…like I said, I find her attitude very entertaining. :) Its such a change from the girls that think farangs are great and and an answer to their financial problems.

The teaching is one on one - she couldn't say this to a class obviously and this only started after we knew each other more. Its almost like a closet hatred that only surfaces once she feels she has an outlet. That's what I find so remarkable.

The first time I encountered this was a very successful businessman I met in Tennessee. We were just driving and he casually mentioned how much he hates black people, they all steal and rob and are the fault of all problems in America…etc.

I just stared at this guy and thought its like a spilt personality and he appears so normal on the outside. Same as this women.

The other teachers love to joke and are very open and normal in their thinking.

Mmmmmmmmmm seems similar to a teacher I have heard of from a school in Pattaya. The same teacher is used to teach the cashiers at a local independent supermarket English, no wonder some of them have attitudes.

This puerile style of conversation is fun now because she is attractive, you are tripping to be bantering in a foreign language, enjoying the socialising but it will get stale or possibly even ugly. You need to go beyond this or the relationship will stall.

Inflammatory post removed.

That's exactly why I like her…:) I just get her going to the point she can't take it… and most of all, she hates jokes about Issan girls.

I asked her the other day if she can appreciate that the farang she meets in Thailand are not representative of the average guy back home and she did say that yes, she would probably have a different opinion if she met normal farang back home.

Even I am embarrassed at some of what I see here so maybe some of these attitudes are justified.

If most of the Thais visible to you back home back home were older Thai men trying to date young white girls who worked as strippers, your thinking might become a little skewed.

She is not attractive. Its already become ugly…I just have the decency not to respond to her likewise. There is no relationship.

I think she is dreaming of something missing in her life. Size matters...lol

Time to smell the coffee...

OP says "When I bring up specific points to illustrate the failures of Thai society and inability to compete in a global marketplace"

World Economic Forum's Global Competitiveness Report 2013-2014 says "among 148 economies Thailand ranks as 38th most competitive"

I have a feeling the rest of the OP is equally based on fantasy.

Kind of odd that you say you like her because she's not like the others, yet, you compliment the others for being basically predictable, or "normal in their thinking" (whatever that means).

Anyways, it sounds like she's just jerking-your-chain.

So what´s your problem OP? It is the greatest country in the world, the birthplace of the human civilisation, the centre of the universe and will soon become the world´s leading nation in technology and science. The Thai society should be a role model for the whole world. Look at all these happy people living together in perfect harmony led by venerable selfless leaders guided by the spirits of buddha. I wish I could be part of this garden eden, but well maybe in 50 or 100 years we will come closer to our great idols and enjoy the same perfection. Dang! Those Japanese must be even more jealous.....

Just agree with her, praise Thailand and the Thainess......might be some fun biggrin.png

Yumm.....cheesy cheese. Love it!

Nothing new about what the OP is describing.

Not only teachers but many Thais have this attitude.

Envy and xenophobia is integrated in their everyday life.

Can't blame them as they never had the opportunity of proper education.

what's the name of the School? I think we have a right to know. But why continue give this place and this racist your business?

Only 30 percent of US citizens have a passport compared to Canada's 60% and the United Kingdom's 75%. The reasons given below would resonate with many Thais.

Tourism experts and avid travelers attribute Americans' lack of interest in international travel to a few key factors, including: the United States' own rich cultural and geographic diversity, an American skepticism and/or ignorance about international destinations, a work culture that prevents Americans from taking long vacations abroad and the prohibitive cost and logistics of going overseas.

would have nothing to do with the automatic gates that Thai passport holders use these day....

Date her..oops forget that she dislikes all things farang...giggle.gif

would have nothing to do with the automatic gates that Thai passport holders use these day....

even if 100 thais and 100 farangs arrived at the same time it would take longer to process the farangs

filling in arrival and departure forms and the confusion but you can see theres about 9 windows marked "FOREIGN PASSPORT" and one or two

at the end for the thais usually
