Not sure how to count to 30

Featured Replies

I arrived in thailand on Jan 9th and was given 30 days, or so I thought. My stamp says I have till Feb 7th.

But isn't that only 29 days?

Did you count the day you entered the country?

The day you enter is day one.

No, i didn't, I didn't think it would work that way. I guess I was wrong.

If you include your entry day it's 30 days

Will I get a red stamp for overstay for 1 day?

You will not pay a fine for an overstay of less than 24 hours if you leave from most airports (both in Bangkok). You will get a small blue stamp. No overstay stamp is red.

If you leave at border crossing you will pay a 500 baht fine.

When you say "small blue stamp" you mean the normal blue stamp you get when you leave? Or will this blue stamp say something about my overstay?

If you overstay, yes it will be noted.

Dont let yourself to be cought on overstay before you leave the country. It is serious offence.

I was going to post a link to the airport overstay stamp but this is one stamp I don't have in my reference album yet. If anybody has it I'd be he grateful if he scanned or photographed it and posted it here. I believe it does not have the passport holder's name on it but if it does, please obliterate it before posting it.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

i just went around it with a thin red line , got it last week , its tiny, and the immigration officer was just happy to take my 1000 baht,

if you want to edit it to make it more obvious please be my guest...

They may write in Thai saying that you overstayed and the fine was paid.

That is just for information to any other Thai immigration officer who looks at it.

It has no effect when you reenter Thailand later.

I once misread the entry date in my passport and overstayed for 30 days.

All I had to do was pay the fine, and listen to a short lecture from the immigration officer to be more careful next time and pay more attention to the stamped date.

He wrote a short statement in Thai next to that blue exit stamp in my passport.

I returned a few months later, and nobody paid any attention to that statement.
