Hi all

Been asking in a few shops if they sell electric cigs, I just get funny looks!

I am after an ecig to help quit smoking, been told to stay clear of the really cheap ones, anyone know where you can get decent ecigs in Bangkok? I'm in the bang kapi area but will take a taxi to grab one,

Thnx in advance

Got any proof to back up that statement? I don't think they are, so long as you use well sourced liquid, and this is backed up by specialists:

In an interview, the director of the Office on Smoking and Health for the U.S. federal agency Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) believes that there is enough evidence to say that electronic cigarettes is likely less harmful than smoking a pack of conventional cigarettes. However, due to the lack of regulation of the contents of the numerous different brands of electronic cigarettes and the presence of nicotine, which is not a benign substance, the CDC has issued warnings.[14]

E, cigarettes are not regulated and have not been proved safe.or effective.

That does not mean that they are 'worse than the real thing', numerous professionals have stated that they consider ecigarettes in general to be, whilst not harmless, safer than smoking normal cigarettes.

Regulation of eliquid would certainly be beneficial though, to add clarity and establish guidelines for additives. Harmful substances have certainly been located in some liquids, though on a par with other NRT devices and at far smaller quantities than in conventional cigarettes.

A preliminary analysis of e-cigarette cartridges by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2009 identified that some contain tobacco-specific nitrosamines (TSNAs), known cancer-causing agents.[15][16] The amounts of TSNAs present were on par with existing NRT products like nicotine gum and inhalers. The FDA's analysis also detected diethylene glycol, a poisonous and hygroscopic liquid, in a single cartridge manufactured by Smoking Everywhere and nicotine in one[17] cartridge claimed to be nicotine-free.[15][16] Diethylene glycol was found in a cartridge tested in 2009 by the FDA, but in 2011 researchers reviewed the data and noted that 15 other studies had failed to find any evidence of this chemical in e-cigarettes.[18] Further concerns were raised over inconsistent amounts of nicotine delivered when drawing on the device.[17] In some e-cigarettes, "Tobacco-specific impurities suspected of being harmful to humans – anabasine, myosmine, and β-nicotyrine – were detected in a majority of the samples tested." It is not clear if these chemicals were detectable in exhaled vapour.[19] The UK National Health Service noted that the toxic chemicals found by the FDA were at levels one-thousandth that of cigarette smoke, and that while there is no certainty that these small traces are harmless, initial test results are reassuring.[20]

I've never heard a scientific claim that they are worse for you than smoking a conventional cigarette.

I can assure you that my experience is that they are effective, 20 a day man for 20 years and haven't smoked a normal cigarette in over a year.

last word on the subject , A none smoker will never convince a smoker that it is bad for them , and a smoker will never convince a none smoker that its any good. all part of the addiction.

I agree that simply not smoking (in either form) is better for health.

they are worse than the real thing,

Very much doubt that mate, I have been smoking since I was 14 (now 30) and I would hate to know the damage I have done, especially smoking Thai cigs they seem far worse on the throat than UK cigs.

Your right, but thats pretty obvious!

They did, I was taking issue with the 'worse than real ones' claim.

OP if you intend to stop, better to cold turkey or use nrt that does not mimic smoking

Answer to your question though is MBK 3rd floor.

Thanks for that I will go check them out, going cold turkey after being a heavy smoker for 16 years is not an option really, apart from the health risks I would not be a nice person to be around! cheers all
