Shots, blasts as protest rivals clash on Thai election eve

BANGKOK, February 1, 2014 (AFP) - Violence erupted in Bangkok on Saturday, the eve of tense Thai elections, with explosions and heavy gunfire breaking out in clashes between pro- and anti-government protesters, according to an AFP journalist.

Soldiers ordered to prevent mobilising more people to Laksi clash site.

Col Songwit Noonpakdee, commander of 11th Infantry Regiment inspected clash site at Lak Si Intersection at about 5.30pm.

He ordered soldiers to go to the back of the Lak Si district to prevent mobilising of more people.

Meanwhile the military officers are trying to help people trapped in the area out.

Erawan centre revises Lak Si clash's injuries to six

Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's Erawan Emergency Medical Service Centre announced that six people were injured in the clash between red shirt people and anti-government protesters at the Lak Si district office.

Four of them were injured with gun wounds, the centre said. All the injured people were sent to the Vibhavadi Hospital. Two of the injured are women.
