BANGKOK: -- A two-seater Army training helicopter crash landed at the Fourth Army Region base in Nakhon Si Thammarat province last night seriously inuring the pilot and co-pilot.

The small Type 300 helicopter from the Fifth Infantry Division was returning to the base at the Fourth Region Command last night but with unknown cause crash landed on an Army pickup truck which was running on the runway.

Both the aircraft and the pickup truck burst in flame. The pilot identified later at Captain Prakit Thongson and a co-pilot and the truck driver were seriously injured. All were rescued from the crash scene to Vajiravudh hospital inside the army base for emergency treatment.

The helicopter was scheduled to take part in today’s joint rescue and relief exercise with the Phrom Khiri district officials to handle emergency rescue operation in case of aircraft crash at 9 a.m. in Phrom Khiri district.

It crash landed on a pick-up truck ?? that was on the runway ??

If the pick-up was not aware of the incoming helicopter it would be similar to the RANGSIT container dropping out the sky. Will we ever know why it crashed ?

horrendous accident.

Thai journalists need to learn the difference between a crash and a crash landing

Planes are normally able to glide, maintain direction and lose height for distance travelled enabling a crash landing if a normal landing isn't an option

Helicopters have the flying ability of bricks if their rotating wings cease to function - that would be a crash.

If they land on top of stationary objects that have not been seen by the pilot - one can form one's own opinion. Might be the same helicopter that Yingluck once used.

It sounds like the pickup truck was moving at the time, so a more difficult target to hit. That may be why he felt he needed to practise crash landing?

Do they have any choppers left.

That one didn't have night vision I believe, so she couldn't attend some big event.--forgot now.
