Popular Post robsamui Posted February 4, 2014 Popular Post Posted February 4, 2014 I remember seeing this company posting hotel/visitor info a while back. Here's the latest analysis - January to August 2013. But I bet it doesn't compare with what's happening right now - Samui is even busier than when all the folks came here from Phuket after the Tsunami! http://www.c9hotelworks.com/downloads/samui-hotel-market-update-2013-08.pdf R 6
Noi657 Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Don't suppose Koh Phangan has anything similar?
ajarnmarc Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Don't suppose Koh Phangan has anything similar? Not likely, the island does very little if anything, in the way of marketing their island, aside from full moon parties. With most hotels charging a minimum 5 day stay rate, and the locals being anything but polite or welcoming, it's not a desire I would pass on to any of my Associates; once was more than enough for me. I left after the second day, and will never return.

Well that might be true, for Haad Rin, and parts of Ban Tai, with minimum stay around FMP..... but definitely not true for the other parts of KP, no minimum stays, at any time and the natives are friendly... It's easy to avoid the drunks and fools.... some parts of KP are very pleasant.... obviously you did not look around... Edited February 5, 2014 by samuijimmy 8

Birdman Posted February 10, 2014 Posted February 10, 2014 KPG is my favorite major inhabited island for sure. Major? not Koh Kood, Koh Tarutao, Koh Mak and so 2

Dude you missed out on something magical, try somewhere like Haad Salad next time it is picture perfect, and the locals are lovely Try anywhere on the island outside of Haad Rin/Baan Tai. I have never heard of C9 outside of their stats on Samui so I don't know if they are sourcing their own stats or taking them from someone else (Samui Hotel Assoication/TAT). What I do know is that TAT does take some stats on Phangan, however they only do this from hotels that reply to their faxes, if the hotel doesn't have a fax machine or TAT doesn't know their number they won't be included in the stats. As for marketing the local TAT rep seems more interested in the perks of the job (taxpayer funded business class flights) then the job itself, so just forwarding the dates of the parties to head office for the next guide book is as far as it gets. In saying that I know the Phangan Hotel Association has a meeting coming up to brainstorm events that can be held in low season to attract more visitors, I am just hoping that the answer is not more parties. 3
Mole Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 (edited) So according to those numbers, the Chinese is #1 with 22%? Then Germans at 18% and Russians 14%. But why is Germany also listed under "Source Market" (whatever that is) with 12% and Russia 9%?? In additional exactly what are the percentage of? Is it total number of tourists from all over the world? Technically Russia is both in Europe and Asia.... The stats are very confusing.. Edited February 13, 2014 by Mole
