Short Report Obtaining Multi O at Savannakhet

Departed Ubon 04 Feb 2014 just before 05.00, straight drive all the way with no hold up. Arrived at the parking lot just before 07.00, Thai passport control opens at 07.00, after stamping out purchased a bus ticket and wait for the bus. The bus arrived at 07.15 and departed at 07.30 it was jam packed. I waited till last and went off first. Already filled out the Lao visa application before I left so went to the desk and had the visa in around 10 min cost was 1500 baht, I then completed the arrival form and went to join the line, then waited around 15 min and I was done.

To get to my hotel I used a minivan cost was 100 baht per person. After reaching the hotel checked in and then walked to the TC, I arrived at the application window at 09.30 and there was no one there. I handed the guy my application and supporting documents, and I kid you not he never checked anything; he gave me back my marriage cert and a ticket number and asked for 5k baht.

On 05 Feb 2014 went back to collect my passport at 14.00, waited in a line for 10min. Headed to the Lao departures and back on the bus to the Thai passport control. After stamping in walked back to the car park and arrived back in Ubon around 17.00 with no hold ups on the way except for 100 baht to the BIB for speeding 10 km before reaching Ubon.

Previously I was obtaining my Multi O in the UAE for the last 10 years or so, but this one was a breeze at Savannakhet. This was my first vist to Lao to obtain this type of Visa.

Some tips

Do not stay at the Hoongthip Hotel it’s a dump

For nice food and cold Lao beer visit the Chez Boune Café, opposite side of the road is the Sabaidee Restaurant they have live music.

If you take the first bus at 07.30 no need to go straight to the TC, get there between 09.30 & 10.30 to save standing in the line. Previously they called out the ticket numbers when you went back to collect your passport, now when the gates open at 14.00 its first come first serve.

Good, concise report; thanks. Does one not have the option of paying US$35.00 at that crossing rather than B1500 as one can at the Friendship Bridge in Nong Khai? About a B300 savings.

They would accept US dollars if you had them.

Yes no problem USD or Thai baht. I was unable to get small notes in Ubon prior to heading there. There is a money changer at the Lao side but it was not open when i arrived.

I also observed that the 40 baht in and out is for the pocket some paid and some did not pay, and they were not prevented from entering or departing. I just paid to save any hassle.

Nice report, i have done the Savannakhet run twice and no problems whatsoever, very relaxed there.

.

Do you still need to show bank details to them

I don't recall any reports of Savannakhet wanting financial proof ever since they started doing multiple entry visas for marriage.

Some have given but it is not required.

Did you show financials ?

Ex : Bank statements ?

Financial proof is not needed in Savannakhet. See another recent topic that states it was not asked for: Worry-Free Non-O-Visa Savannakhet

I can confirm they do not require any bank statement or any other type of financial details, just give them the following for the multi O, plus the 5k baht and you are good to go.

1. Application form + 2 photo, best to download and complete before the trip

2. Your passport plus a copy

3. Original mariage cert + copy

4. Copy of the wife's id card

5. Copy of the blue house book

You will be amazed at how fast the guy will complete the process, mine was less that 15 seconds
