Just in case it's not obvious if you get an e-mail like the one I've just got below, it's a scam

We recently reviewed your account, and suspect that your PayPal account may

have been accessed by an unauthorized third party. Protecting the security

of your account and of the PayPal network is our primary concern.

Therefore, as a preventative measure, we have temporarily limited access to

sensitive PayPal account features.

Click below in order to regain access to your account:

https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_login-run which is the legit url but the hyperlink in the e-mail points to http://nonlinearfunctions/images/

For more information about how to protect your account, please visit

PayPal's Security Center, accessible via the "Security Center" link located

at the bottom of each page of the PayPal website.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause, and appreciate your

assistance in helping us maintain the integrity of the entire PayPal

system. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

The PayPal Team

Here's another one that has been going around for awhile, that you should still watch out for:

PayPal Scam - PayPal account holders have been receiving an email that says someone has paid them money. The name usually used is Betty Hill. There is a link provided to log in to their account and collect the money. The web page that comes up looks like PayPal The victim then enters their ID and password. That is the purpose of the scam. The victim is NOT on the PayPal site but on a look-alike site. They have now given their id and password to a crook who will then log in to their PayPal account and take whatever they can. If you get this email, do NOT use the link to go to your account. Always enter the URL yourself or pull it down from your favorites. If you have already gone to the fake PayPal from the email, go to the real one and change your password immediately. Check that there are no unfamiliar transactions.

If you live in Thailand , you cannot get a PayPal a/c.

Actually if you live in Thailand, but have a bank account and banking address in a country that Paypal works with with, you CAN get a Paypal account. I got one after moving here.

Paypal is best to be avoided. From my experience, you can get a Paypal account anywhere if you have an international credit card. They have recently made an agreement or been approved by the European Union to operate as a payment agent, with an office in Ireland. This is to legitimize their business and to charge EU citizen the applicable VAT on all transactions for EU citizens based on the "mail address" of the credit card holder. I.E. if you recide in Thailand but the mailing address of your international credit card is, lets say in Sweden, you will be charged with the applicable VAT in Sweden, even when the delivery is for Thailand.

Secondly, once you're in registered by PayPal you will never get out. Watch the charges on your credit card thoroughly!

From where do I know the above? Right...........bad experience. :o

Cheers...........kandt

By living in Thailand and opening a bank account in a country that paypal operates you can get a paypal account. That is correct. However, it is in breach of paypal's user agreement. If they find you accessing your account from a non-paypal country they will freeze your account. They will then ask you to provide them evidence that YOU (not a company) live in the country where your bank account is located. They will ask for your utility bills. Your account will eventually be closed. Trust me, you are in breach of paypal's user agreement. The only reason your account hasn't been frozen is that they haven't found you out yet - but they will eventually.

Check out www.paypalsucks.com for some very interesting stories.

Be VERY careful using paypal.

I get two or 3 emails a week telling me my Payypal account is going to be shut down in 5 days.

I sent tham to Payypal and asked what they were WITHOUT touching the attachment.

Virus.

Each one has after the title a 5 letter code, something like CGRTD, just randon letters. Delete immediately.
