Pheu Thai party vows not to abandon farmers

jarupong-3-wpcf_728x413.jpg

The Pheu Thai party announced today that it would not abandon the farmers and slammed the People’s Democratic Reform Committee of using the farmers as a hostage for its own gains.

The party met today to discuss the problems related to rice pledging scheme and farmer’s protests. A statement was issued after the meeting.

In the statement, the party claimed that the rice pledging scheme has been very beneficial to the farmers in helping increase the earnings of 3.2 farming households and in paying, so far, 700 billion baht to farmers through the Bank of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives which helps stimulate the economy.

The party said the government would try to secure fund to pay the farmers as quick as possible and pleaded for their sympathy for the government’s restrictions to secure fund because of the government’s caretaker’s status.

Party leader Charupong Ruangsuwan asked the PDRC not to exploit the sufferings of the farmers for political motives.

He slammed protest leader Suthep Thaugsuban for leading protesters to put pressure on government-owned banks to deny loans or credits to the government.
