Popular Post plachon
Off to get his fortune told by ET? I certainly don't foresee any heroic returns to LOS any time soon, when I stare into my own crystal ball. Sadly, I see more years sniffing around the borders of Burma and Cambodia, trying to sneak in the master's house like a mangy mutt with fleas.

Popular Post Scamper
Thaksin hasn't been this close to Thailand than when - well, since he was there last, or the time before, or in Cambodia - inside or outside of cabinet. The journey over the bridge is quite brief, but he'll never, ever make it. Because although he has a fondness for making merit, he's seriously scared of jail. That's about the extent of his conviction. So there you have it - comfortably nestled in countries which have almost no human rights. He's right at home.
slapout
I don't know when the Forbes magazine went to print, but the photo of Taksin on it is the same as the one posted by MGP. Is this old news being recirculated or someone attempting to pull someones chain??? That picture is a mockery of Forbes Magazine and the merit-buying business. Popular Post virtualtraveller
I recall, when he returned after the coup, he organised a national tour of merit making among the most famous temples in Thailand, big posters everywhere, it was about the most distasteful publicity campaign I've ever seen.
Why ask
I'm sure Thaksin did make merit in Myanmar: to the tune of a few million in merit making in conjunction with the Junta.
JesseFrank
Somchai wrote a caption for the combo of Thaksin photos that read "Who’s that in Myanmar?" Answer : A fugitive convicted criminal with several outstanding court cases, who's sister has been looting Thailand's state coffers for the past 31 months . I expected that a senator would know that.

PS, read the section on that and see who praised him for it!!!! Lowered Debt, balanced budgets After facing fiscal deficits in 2001 and 2002, Thaksin balanced the national budget, producing comfortable fiscal surpluses for 2003 to 2005. Despite a massive program of infrastructure investments, a balanced budget was projected for 2007 Income in the Northeast, the poorest part of the country, rose by 46% from 2001 to 2006.[62] Nationwide poverty fell from 21.3% to 11.3% Thaksin's economic policies helped Thailand recover from the 1997 Asian financial crisis and substantially reduce poverty. Who was in power of the country that set off the Whole asian financial crisis and almost broke the back of the country? Lucky he came along or we would still be very much third world status. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thaksin_Shinawatra#Economic_Policies Strange that people who have not lived in Thailand for very long, don't know anything at all about him.. One thing the Democrats are good at is ruining the country - whether they are in power or not, they will always do their best to ruin Thailand. And then they wonder why people don't vote for them. Silly bunch.
Popular Post geriatrickid
A better example for Buddhism than the militant PDRC monk for sure. You do realise most Thais hold a centuries old grudge against Burma? Yes, many do, usually based upon prejudice and ignorance. Surely, good relations, and cooperation are better activities than war and strife. Many Europeans have put aside their long standing animosity towards Germany and have worked to build a better society. Europe has prospered with peace, so too can Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia and Vietnam, I'd rather merit making than speeches from a stage in Bangkok spewing blood libel against Cambodians and others.
